Pros and Cons Electronic Media Addiction I can access it with the click of a button. I can access it and obtain media from practically anywhere. I can gain the access quickly on my cellphone, iPad or MacBook, to check my email, watch a movie, listen to music or even read a book or newspaper. What is it you ask? It is electronic media. Electronic media “are media that use electronics or electromechanical energy for the end user (audience) to access the content” (Wikipedia). Electronic media is all around. Society absorbs media like sponges and uses it like it is literally a part of us; sometimes it would appear as if we are addicted to using it. Cellphones, televisions, online education etc. has an influence so powerful in our lives that we don’t even recognize its presence at times. Media is one of the variants in molding culture. Society can use this media to its advantage if we pay closer attention to its impact on us. There are diversified Pros and Cons to Electronic Media. Face to face communication has an abundance of benefits; these benefits include the ability to see facial expressions to prevent miscommunications. It also helps us to become more skilled listeners. When communicating face to face you can gain trust of others. There are not very many negatives of face to face interactions. Electronic communication on the other hand has very few positives, more negatives exists when using this form of communication. The benefits include meeting new people, gaining more courage to talk to people, giving advice and being able to communicate with friends and family that live far away.
