Marriage is something that is supposed to last forever. Unfortunately for many families, including my own, divorce tears them apart. While divorce is hard on the two people actually going through it, it is also hard on the child or children they have. In my case, my parents divorced when I was three years old. This was particularly hard on me because I did not truly understand the situation and what was going on. Eventually, I stopped trying to understand it and I accepted things for the way they were. Following the divorce, my mother and I moved from a three bedroom house in Saltillo, MS to a one bedroom apartment approximately fifteen miles away in Tupelo, MS. I can remember the paper thin walls and the smell of smoke from the old woman that lived below us. The apartment was not in the safest location so the majority of my time was spent inside the cramped living quarters. Both my mom and I hated it there, but there was nothing she could do to get us out at the time.
