A Prison Industrial Complex is a term that they use to reference the overlapping interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to economic, social and political problems. A PIC helps preserve authority for those who power is accessed through racial, economic, and other related privileges.The people typically in power are usually white American men and the people held down are generally minorities. There are many different ways that power is gained and sustained in a PIC which includes creating mass media that promotes stereotypes about certain religions,races,youth, immigrants and also the gay. Some also grant behavioral counseling which is really a waste of money that should be gone simply because most inmates just do that with the intent of their sentence being shortened. The people in prison usually deserve to be where they are and some cases people are targeted and wrongly accused which should be fixed. To get rid of prisons all together though? Would not do anything but give people more freedom to do crimes. I do not believe prisons are more harm than help because it somewhats stops the problems of those committing crimes. If we did not have prisons in the US I really don’t know how to predict how society would be. I feel it would be some sort of apocalypse in way. I understand these white men who run these private business make millions off these criminals but if I was in their position I would not complain about the prison systems. We all are against things we are not in that position which is hating to me so it’s not right to bash particular groups or individuals because of their choices. I probably sound ignorant with my responses but I truly cannot relate to these things at all. My opinion on these things would be different more than likely if I could relate to it in some form but I just
