The live concert performance that I attended was the Dana Concert Series Presents: Faculty and
Guest Artist Recital at the The College of Creative Arts and Communication. The venue was Bliss
Recital Hall. The recital included the faculty performers, Dr. James Umble on saxophone and Dr.
Glenn Schaft on vibraphone. The guest artists from the Cleveland Orchestra, were Art Klima on viola,
Stephen Warner on violin, Carolyn Warner on piano, and Richard Weiner on percussion.
Modern and Late Romantic style music was the theme of the live performance. The style of
music was apparent due to the unconventional harmony and tonality of the music associated with
modern period music. The Late Romantic style music was evident due to the natural and mysterious
sounding pieces that identify with that period of music. The highlight of the show was the world
premiere of “Verses” for soprano by Vache Sharafyan, recreated for the saxophone and performed by
Dr. James Umble on soprano saxophone and Dr. Glenn Schaft on vibraphone. The performance of
“Verses” was a great live experience in which the timbre of the instuments and actions of the
performers was mesmerizing.
The first section of the program featured Hindemith's Trio, for Viola, Heckelphone or Tenor
Saxophone and Piano, op. 47. This is a dramatic two movement, modern piece that was played with
elegance and passion. The next work performed was Sharafyan's “Verses” for Soprano Saxophone and
Vibraphone. The intimate feeling of the the two-instrument performance was indicative of chamber
music. The capability of the two artists performing the piece was thought-provoking and exciting. The
final piece before intermission was Sato's Stream of Life for Soprano Saxopho...

...ence and ability to incorporate herself into piece at hand. Her
performance as a pianist very much struck me as a listener. The concert space although very nice, was
extremely hot on the day of this recital, which made for a somewhat unconfortable experience.
Overall though, the intimate lighting and dymanics of the recital hall made the performance a good
experience.

The event I attended was “An Evening of Jazz” concert held at the Fine Arts Hall on November 17 at 7:30 p.m. The performing groups were The Santa Fe Rhythm and Blues Review, The Santa Fe Jazz Combo, and Santa Fe Big Band. The event was to for me to understand, experience Jazz music and know the instruments used.

Mark Zeltser was presented in concert Friday April 6, 2001 at the Perot Theater. This concert was a part of the 200-2001 Perot Theater Series. Dr. and Mrs. George Bohmfalk, The Wednesday Music Club and the Charles N. Temple Memorial Fund were the sponsors of this event.
I have been to many different concerts throughout my life but this year I experienced two exceptionally unique ___ that I had never seen before. The first one was a spectacular chamber recital that took place at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performed by pianist Yefim Bronfman and violist-violinist Pinchas Zukerman. The program included Schubert's Violin Sonatina No. 2 in A Minor, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 7 in C Minor, and Brahms’ Viola Sonata No. 1 in F Minor. The second was a performance by the notable quartet “Anonymous 4” presented by the Universality of Chicago at the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. The program included a series of medieval French motets from the 13th Century French polyphony, taken from the Montpellier Codex. The two performances were extremely different in nature and but at the same time very similar in what they were trying to achieve. For instance, while the first concert consisted entirely of an instrumental performance, the other was exclusively vocal. This piece was filled with improvisation and you could feel the creativity following from the musicians. The combo didn’t have a conductor like the big band and was significantly smaller. Although, the combo was smaller and less formal it wasn’t any less of a performance. The piece started out with a phenomenal alto sax solo by Kevin Clements of Lamar, Missouri. Kevin is a talented musician, with his dark, rich sounding solo, he hit it out of the park. Ivan Vazquez of Garden City, Kansas performed another great solo on the trombone. Maddy Beasley, Kearney, Missouri followed Ivan with a tenor saxophone
On Friday, November 15, 2013, I attended a concert that I found very interesting. It took place at 7:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The group performing was the Erie Chamber Orchestra, but as a special the Slippery Rock University Concert Choir was also there. During the performance I attended, two pieces were performed. The first was a Mozart piece by the name of Symphony No. 41.
The concert I attended was the Jazz Showcase in Rudder Theatre on Monday June21, 2004 at 7:30 p.m.
One performance that stood out to me during the concert was a song called Sinfonia #3 by J. C. Bach (Wind Ensemble Concert program). The reason I enjoyed this song was because it was performed by nine saxophone players. I would say
On Wednesday, May 23rd, I attended the College Choir concert in the Reamer Campus Center. The choir performed a variety of songs, ranging from pieces in Latin to traditional American folksongs. Two of the pieces featured solos, and one even featured percussion instruments. Mrs. Elinore Farnum provided piano accompaniment for each of the songs, and performed beautifully. I was extremely impressed by the talented choir members and their ability to sing such a varied range of songs.
In conclusion, the concert was really interesting and I enjoyed myself. In my opinion the two pieces that I really like in this concert, are Sounden Horn and Polonaise from Engine Onegin, the shift between the melodic lines and the element of beauty is what made me like it. In the future I would recommend it to my friends and I will not mind to go with them at all. This kind of music is the best to me by far.

That brings us to the last segment of our concert, the Modern Era. Traditoinal musical instruments in the modern period have not changed nearly as much as they have in the 18th and 19th centuries. There have been gradual iterations of musical instruments within the 1900’s, such as updates to the violin family. There were many new instruments created in the Modern Era, all of which focused around electricity. This evening’s selections do not include any such selections with electronic instruments; however, there are arrangements available for the electric instruments such as the organ, keyboard or syntehsizer, or electric guitar.

For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see student composers.
