Pharmaceutical drugs are medication or medicine often times prescribed by doctors to treat a current condition, offer a cure or prevent a disease. It has been reported that roughly seventy percent of Americans are on one prescription drug and more then half of those already on prescription drugs are also prescribed a second drug. Twenty percent of Americans are on five prescription medications. The number people using prescription drugs have increased over 48 percent over the past few years. One of the most common prescription drugs are antidepressants and are more prevalent among women rather then men. Overall more women are on prescription drugs then men. Negligent drug manufacturers who care only about making a profit rather then the consumer can cause complications from pharmaceutical drugs. They can fail to properly indicate warnings on labels, can fail to test and do research on the drug and its ingredients, and can fail to accurately design and manufacture the drug. Doctors, nurses, hospitals and nursing homes can also be held liable when a pharmaceutical drug causes complications. It can be deemed malpractice if it is though that the healthcare provider knew of the complications that could arise but chose to prescribe it anyways. Prescribing the wrong medication, giving the wrong dose, having harmful ingredients, can cause some complications or not warning the patient of the dangers the drug can cause. Many complications can arise from pharmaceutical drugs including heart problems like congestive heart failure, heart damage, liver damage, kidney damage, decrease in testicle size, sexual dysfunction, hallucinations, fainting, coma, paralysis, pain, bleeding, fear seizures, heart attack, effects from the toxicity of the dru...

Modern health care practices have set the stage for the proliferation of direct-to-consumer advertising (DTCA) of prescription drugs by pharmaceutical manufacturers. Some of these practices include the emergence of managed care organizations (MCOs), the legalization of DTCA of prescription drugs, the emergence of the Internet as an alternative promotional channel, the increased desire by patients to become more involved in their own health care decisions, the

For example, Michael Levin-Epstein, who wrote the article “A New Way to Deliver Psychiatric Meds: Drugs for ADHD and Major Depression Now Can Be Delivered with Skin Patches,” shows how pharmacotherapy is continually being advanced by new ideas and approaches. However, Psychiatric drugs are not always the answer.

However new research and public information shows that while they work in health care health is not what they are starting distribute. “A pharmaceutical company, or drug company, is a commercial business licensed to research, develop, market and/or distribute drugs, most commonly in the context of healthcare. They can deal in generic and/or brand medications.” Although

A drug is considered psychoactive if it has an effect on the central nervous system which alters a person’s thought and behavior (Cole & Cole, 1963). Humans have had a long-running affair with psychoactive substances and have responded to the demand for them with both altruism and opportunism. While much of pharmaceutical industry genuinely seeks and works for the betterment of mankind, it is also driven and influenced by capitalism and power struggles. The Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) origins began in 1906 with the establishment of the Food and Drug Act. Signed into law by President Theodore Roosevelt, the Food and Drug Act (renamed in 1930 to the Food and Drug Administration) began as a law that restricted interstate commerce of food and drugs which were “adulterated” and “misbranded.” Up until that time, there were very few laws in place which regulated the sales and contents of pharmaceuticals and food products which were manufactured
A broken bone is easy to fix; a cast is made and use of the broken limb is limited. A headache is easily remedied with flushing of fluids, rest, and a few pain relievers. All of these situations are quick-fixes for healthcare providers. The true battle ground lies where most cannot see, and before most can feel symptoms. A tiny world exists in and outside of the human body. This world, or what scientist would call a “microbiome,” is one of the deadliest battle fields for workers in the hospital

This relates to drug-drug interactions, herb-herb interaction or drug-food interaction. A herb can potentially mimic, magnify or reduce the effects of co-administered drugs and the consequences of these interactions can be beneficial
