The film I chose was Pearl Harbor being directed by Michael Bay and was released in the United States on May 25th, 2001. Pearl Harbor was a theatrical run-through of the events that took place prior to, during and after the attack happened on the United States at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. These attacks ultimately led us to join in the war and declare war on Japan. The film Pearl Harbor was a plot based on two Army pilots who, while fighting a war, fall in love with a woman, mourned the loss of a great friend and found love again. Although not receiving the best review from critics, the movie was a box office hit. The portrayal of the events are vivid and realistic in the film Pearl Harbor, however, most parts are dramatized to keep the viewer engrossed. The attack on Pearl Harbor was an unforgettable day in history and directly affected the United States involvement in World War Two and the patriotism of the United States’ citizens.
There are numerous inaccuracies in this film. I will begin with the fact that the Japanese did not stage a “sneak attack” on the United States. First war warnings were coming in as early as November 26th 1941. Japanese diplomats were

The film being viewed as extremely in-accurate by many critics, however, watching the film makes a viewer more understanding of the events that occurred that day. I felt it was a great depiction of the attack which occurred against our naval fleet and aircrafts; ultimately leading us to declare war against Japan. The producers do their best to keep your interest since the movie is very long. Adding the love story aspect was a great plot follower, because who in war times wants to be alone? So as Roosevelt’s most famous saying goes “Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 –A date that will live in infamy-“. Remembering Pearl Harbor is easy, but understanding the attacks is difficult to
The movie Pearl Harbor was written based on the historic event that occurred in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The movie has many inaccurate events that are misleading but overall the movie does a good job telling the historic event that occurred.
First, Pearl Harbor is a day to remember for us as Americans today; but in the past, Americans used the remembrance of Pearl Harbor to pump them up and want to defeat the Japanese. The Americans wanted to defeat Japan, so badly since their attacks on Pearl Harbor occurred even before war was declared. “Pearl Harbor was a huge success for the Japanese, but the ‘sneak’ attack made Americans determined for revenge”(Granton). The attacks happened early in the
The Battle of Pearl Harbor was one of the most atrocious events that happened in U.S. history. On December 7, 1941, Japan made a surprise aerial attack on the United States naval base and airfields at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. More than two thousand Americans died and a thousand two hundred were wounded. Eighteen ships were badly damaged, including five battleships. The next day, President Franklin Roosevelt with the support of the Congress, declared war on Japan.
The attacks on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 were the first attacks ever to take place on American soil, the repercussions were devastating for the Japanese Empire; sadly, Pearl Harbor would not be the last threat America faced on her own land. On September 9th, 2011 (9/11) a radical Islāmic terrorist group known as Al-Qaeda attacked America. While America dealt with both of these attacks with unyielding resolve, executing that resolve was what is starkly different between the two tragedies. Pearl Harbor did have some quintessential similarities to 9/11; both attacks unprovoked by America, both provoked public support against aggressors by way of presidential speeches, both lacked prior intelligence on the attacks themselves, both sparked
The Attack on Pearl Harbor Shapes American History “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy. . .” These famous lines were spoken the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave this speech to the U.S. Congress on December 8, 1941. Many criticized the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, but the decision to attack America was wisely made. The Americans were going to enter the war sooner or later, and on the allies’ side.
Even before the battle started, America saw his attack coming. Japan had bombed the Dutch harbor in Alaska on the days of June 3rd and 4th. Japan landed there instead of on the islands of Attu and Kiska, in fear the United States might be there. There attacks failed when the plan to get the American fleet from Midway to aid the freshly bombed Dutch harbor. At 0900 hours an American patrol boat spotted the Japanese fleet seven hundred miles from Midway. At that point admiral Soroku Yamamoto’s plans of a sneak attack were over. Admiral fletcher commanded the U.S.S. Yorktown before it was sunk by the Japanese. Then at 0750, japan spots nine enemy (American) planes fifteen miles out. Tones, a Japanese cruiser, opened fire on the American pilots. Almost instantly if an American bomber plane were hit it would explode and go down. The bombers dropped their torpedoes to far from their targets, so the torpedoes didn’t land a single blow to Japan. At 1040 japan sent from Hiryu,...
The American soldiers had begun using the method of island hopping, because the bomb was not available. The idea of dropping a bomb was that the war itself could possibly end at its earliest points. The dropping of the atomic bomb could also justify the money spent on the Manhattan Project (Donohue 1). With a quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt “This will be a day that will live in infamy”, Pearl Harbor was a tragic day for Americans. The United States had lost many soldiers, which they had claimed that they would eventually get revenge.
In World War II their were a lot of battles. There were a lot of city’s bombed. How would you feel if you were in World War II ? I would be running from the Japanese and the Natiz . Also I would probably die or hide in a road gutter . The question is what would you do if you were in World War II ?
Pearl Harbor is easily one of the most disastrous events that occurred on American soil. It was a deliberate attack against the United States from Japan. Before December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked, America had decided not to get involved in European affairs, which included the beginning of World War II. However, once the United States saw how much Britain and the Soviet Union were suffering from fighting with the Axis Powers (Germany, Italy, and Japan), America felt obligated to help in some way to help without actually entering the war. Weapons, money, and food were sent over seas to help aid them in any way it could. It was very obvious that if America had entered the war, we would join the side of the Allies (Great Britain, France, and the Soviet Union). The day after Pearl Harbor, Franklin D. Roosevelt approached congress and asked for a declaration of war against Japan. Pearl Harbor affected many events that occurred in World War II. Not only the United States, but the world was affected that day.
It was a Sunday morning, on December 7, 1941 when Pearl Harbor, US naval base located on Hawaii, was attacked by the Japanese. They caught unguarded the whole nation, and for that, this attack is considered one of the top ten failures of the US intelligence. The Japanese were able to attack Pearl Harbor by surprise because of the mindset of US officials, whom they saw Japanese as a weak enemy, who wouldn’t risk attacking US territory, caused by a supremacy factor; As well as the not good enough US intelligence efficiency to encrypt Japanese codes, and the handling of such information. After the negotiations between the Japanese and the United States ended, there was no doubt that they would make an attack, but they didn’t know the target of it.
The Attack on Pearl Harbor was a shocking blow to the United States that forced the U.S. into World War II. The United States goal was to stay isolated from foreign affairs, but Pearl Harbor changed all that, forcing them to get involved in foreign affairs. A young, power hungry United States wanted to control Southeast Asia, angering Japan along the way. The reason the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor was the results of decades of tension starting back in 1899 with arguments over the United States Open Door Policy; both countries desired control over the Pacific and East Asia, which made war unavoidable.
On December 7, 1941 twenty American naval vessels were destroyed, 2,000 American soldiers and sailors died, and about 1,000 were injured. This event would forever be known as Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was an incident in American history where the Japanese bombed a naval base in Oahu, Hawaii. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because they feared the United States would plan a naval attack on them due to their new acquired territories such as: Philippines, Guam, America Samoa and other small islands. The Japanese thought they could do a swift first strike against the united pacific fleet and cripple America’s ability to respond. By delaying America’s ability to respond they were hoping to gain the territories and control most of the Pacific Rim.
Pearl Harbor carries on with books and even in the movies from generation to generation. The United States suffered defeat at Pearl Harbor, but united together to pursue victory. The film stays exceedingly accurate to the history of Pearl Harbor in comparison with Prange's book.
Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941 at approximately 7:55 am by the Japanese. The day after Pearl Harbor was bombed President Roosevelt spoke the words, “ a date which will live in infamy” he was discussing the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed. Around the world during this time, people were taking in the impacts of WWll. Japan also allied with Italy and Germany, all three countries were greedy for expansion, but Japan wanted oil as well, and the American Naval fleet was in the way. Japan attacked Pearl harbor because they felt that the Americans were standing in the way of their treasures and world expansion.
The movie Pearl Harbor has long been recognized as a historical event that played a part in the start of World War 2. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on the morning of December 7, 1941. The attack led to the United States entry into World War II because the goal was to prevent the U.S. Pacific Fleet from interfering with other nations overseas. The military base was attacked by three hundred and fifty three Japanese fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six air craft carriers. As a result, the next day United States declared war on Japan. However, the movie Pearl Harbor does not all reflect
