So 5 year old boys (and girls for that matter, but boys more so) learn by imitating. They are curious; they want to try new things. Like jumping off of preposterously high places with ease, which kill your aging knees just looking at the feat. But more to the point of the story, like sampling your beer. So at some point, you give in, figuring they will make that sourpuss face (AKA the Brussel Sprouts Pout) and maybe even spit/dribble some out. And then beer is off their radar for a decade or two, depending on their future propensity for underage drinking. That was my experience when my dad gave me some Miller-based product 25-30 odd years ago. I didn’t like the taste at all. But not my son, I give it to him, and of course he loves it.

I think he actually likes it for the taste, but I know some part of it is to push our collective parenting buttons. He knows you aren’t supposed to drink mommy and daddy drinks until you are much older. So he gets a kick out of breaking rules (more on that in future posts, much, much, more) and this is just a sampling of that. But it can’t b...
