It is hard to be an African American in today’s society. They word nigger is constantly thrown around like it is a compliment. Many may accept the racial slur, but I do not tolerate it. I feel offended when nigger is said to me. The one instance that stands out the most is when I was called a nigger at my job. An irate customer walked into my job, and I tried my best to help him. Even though I fixed the customer’s problem, he was still angry. The customer showed his aggravation by calling me names. He called me a bastard, a bitch, retard, and lastly a worthless nigger. That one occurrence changed my perspective on the word nigger. The title of an African American is slowly devolving to its formal name, nigger. Rather then abolish the word, Americans changed the meaning to cover up the word nigga’s actual meaning. The new spelling and usage of the word is considered as slang. The slang is used through out America. Nigga is used some of the world’s most popular music genres. The audience unawarely sings along with the “uplifting music.” The most common users in the music industry are rappers. The hip-hop artists use the phrase “ fuck niggeas.” According to Webster’s dictionary, the phrase really mean to express anger towards black people or people of color. Nigga is adopted into people’s conversation because the word nigga is constantly used. The constant use if nigger/nigga shows my personal definition of the word. The original definitions is people of color, but my definitions explain the people who uses nigger. My personal definition of nigger is an ignorant person. The user of the word is ignorant is because he fails to realize the word’s origin. The word was once used as a way of discrimination. Today’s ignorance started in the 1800s. The ignorance started from the creators of the word nigger, and the ignorance was passed down and adopted by today’s
