I chose my story by thinking of an adventure that I went on that had a lot of information in it so that my partner could pick out what he thought was cool and also add his own flavor and interpretation to it. Based on the whole experience, although our class was an anomaly, I feel like my story blended in with everyone else’s because almost everyone talked about a vacation. Alec, Max, Jacob, Ian, Natalia, Bridget, Josh, and DJ (probably a few more that I can’t recall) all had stories about vacations. A lot of funny things happened in my story, but I think that Alex’s story about the nude beach was the funniest.

My perceptions of classmates did not change because for the most part because I did not have perceptions of most of the people in the class, and for those who I did have perceptions of, their stories were characteristic of them and did not surprise me. As mentioned in the first question of the reflection, our class was an anomaly, with most of the stories being about vacations. I thought that all of the vacation stories were either humorous or adventurous, but had no deeper meaning to them or “moral of the story.” In contrast, the remaining stories such as Ari’s and Luke’s gave me deeper insights about them because they talked about what was going through their heads in a traumatic situation, and what they took away from that situation. In my opinion, I think that the story exchange has created a more friendly sharing environment so that nobody feels vulnerable while telling a story, although I don’t think that anyone felt uncomfortable sharing a story before the
I am a qualified solicitor and in this role I have developed my communication skills. On one occasion I was representing a mother who was a victim of domestic violence. The father wanted to see his children but the mother was not allowing it due to the domestic violence. I acknowledged her concerns regarding the contact and explained that I understood why she would not want contact to take place. I also explained to the mother the courts view in terms of contact and domestic violence cases. I highlighted the fact that if she allowed contact without going to hearing she would still retain a level of control. I suggested that contact take place at a neutral location and be supervised by a friend or family member until she was comfortable with this arrangement. The client was reluctant but highlighted that the court would want some form of contact and she would have to adhere to this. However, by reaching an agreement outside of court she is not bound by it and will be in control. The client agreed to
1. Growing up we all heard stories. Different types of stories, some so realistic, we cling onto them farther into our lives. Stories let us see and even feel the world in different prespectives, and this is becuase of the writter or story teller. We learn, survive and entertain our selves using past experiences, which are in present shared as stories. This is why Roger Rosenblatt said, "We are a narrative species."
Storytelling’s impact on people who use it has been life saving in certain cases. By asserting the existence of different perspectives, writers get to suppress their own opinions in order to sympathize with others. (insert thing about meta-fiction) With this idea in mind, author Kate Taylor wrote the novel Serial Monogamy, a meta-fiction of a writer recalling the story of her husband’s affair and her deal with terminal breast cancer, all through her telling of Dickens’ secret life and tales of the Arabian Nights. In Serial Monogamy, storytelling makes people more understanding as they explore new perspectives.

Stories are a big part of the human race. From conceptualizing the birth of our race to nagging our parents to tell bedtime stories, our life is nothing but a series of stories. It is in human nature to narrate significant incidents of our lives to others. Storytelling as a method has been progressively used by various companies as a tool to connect with their employees and customers. It helps to build a bridge of loyalty, longevity, mutual trust and understanding and connection. Storytelling helps to get that instant personal connect. Stories are significant because they are inherent to human experience. By stories we pass on our accumulated wisdom, beliefs and values to the future generations.
Stories are necessary aspects in our everyday life. From helping us remember a loved one to preparing for an interview, stories are extremely beneficial. I hear stories everyday and they help me as I overcome the loss of my favorite uncle. He was a great man and is still present everyday because of the impact stories of his great legacy have. Without stories, I would be sad every day that he is no longer physically with me, but I always hear of the great things he did and it consoles and comforts me greatly.
Throughout my life I have heard a wide range of stories from my parents. When putting this assignment together I have put these stories into account. Randall Bass, educator of English at Georgetown University, concurs that stories shape individuals ' personalities. Bass expresses that, "People infer their feeling of personality from their way of life, and societies are frameworks of conviction that decide how individuals experience their lives" (Bass 1). Social stories about family history, religion, nationality, and legacy impact individuals ' conduct and convictions. Personalities of diverse individuals originate from their societies. Narrating starts at home. Stories associate individuals to their frameworks of convictions. They shape individuals ' lives by giving them a model of how to live. Everyone is supposed to have a story about how he/she became the reader and writer he/she is today. For me, my story is not just about how I became an exceptional reader and writer; it is about how I became the person I am. I do not have some dark childhood story filled with depressed memories. I had a delightful childhood and cannot complain about anything that I have been through. However, I feel as if I live a life much different from all the children I knew.

In, Sherman Alexie, “Slouching Towards Thanksgiving”, the dark humor in his story made it effective for the audience to enjoy and reminded me of my personality.

As I sit here and reflect on how my education and work life experiences have prepared me for my future in the workplace; I truly become overwhelmed by the amount of things that I have learned and experienced. Like many others these experiences has influenced, motivated, and driven me to make the choices I have made. The good, the bad and the ugliest of them all have helped me to become the person that I am today.
