I consider my life unique and not like many ordinary lives today. Since I was very young, it has always been a strong feeling that my future job would be caring for many individuals. I grew up in a wonderful home with two loving parents. Yes, I am an only child, but don’t hold that against me just yet. I had many first cousins, whom I gladly call my sisters and brothers. My parents taught me at a very young age about hard work, love, responsibility, and the ability to appreciate life while striving to accomplish all my goals. Unfortunately, my family’s health history is not all that great. We have hypertension, thyroid problems, diabetes, and high cholesterol in our history like many others in this world. I worked many years making chemotherapy medications for cancer patients while working in the outpatient Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. During this time, I did get to meet some of my patients and see the nursing side of giving medications. While working there, I also worked in the Outpatient Pharmacy at Rutledge Towers. There I filled prescriptions, ordered medications, entered prescriptions, mailed prescriptions to transplant patients, worked as a team player, dealing with public communication, getting insurance approvals, and orienting new employees. This I believed helped jump start me towards my nursing career. I felt I was helping many to better themselves and worked full time while finishing up my recommended classes for nursing school. I want to help as many patients as I can better themselves. I feel I am ready to accomplish a new role as a Nurse Practioner. I foresee I will still be active in health promotion while continuing my education skills and techniques to many about their chronic illness. It will allow me to guide them through their treatment options and work together as a family should. Listening and my communication skills will be my two best attributes that I will continue to lead with every day while opening my heart to all. I feel I will get more one on one care with all my patients and be able to make a change in their overall health care options. I look forward to my new challenge and welcome it with open
