One of a Kind Core values are more than just adjectives used to describe a person. They are the traits that make each person unique; the things that drive a person throughout life. Some core values are easy to identify in people, while other times, the individual keeps them more private. I often wonder if I portray my values so brightly that other people could guess them without me telling them. Do I live my life in a way that my convictions are easily identified by others? The core values that I chose to live my life by include family, kindness, responsibility, and empathy. The most important thing to me is my family. Even though my family is small, I am extremely lucky that we are so close to each other. My parents are still married, and they have taught me so much about family and even how when times are tough, my family will always be there to support me. Unfortunately, I only have one grandparent living today. I lost both of my grandfathers and one grandmother when I was younger. Because of this, I cherish every moment I have with my Meme. In this essay, the author witnesses a boy being bullied by his peers. The author contemplates whether he should speak up or follow the other students and just wait for a teacher. Instead of falling in with the crowd, Adolfo screams “enough!” The author then escorts the victim away from all of the action and the boy has a huge grin on his face. All the boy could say was “thank you.” Empathy is not just having sympathy for others’ pain; it is identifying someone’s situation and feeling the same difficulties.
