All of us have those few select people within our lives that we have no idea what we could have ever done without at some point. For some of us, it is our parents; for others, it may be a relative, friend, teacher, or even a stranger. It could be as simple as a phrase or as tortuous and tangled as a lifetime, but people tend to influence us in small or grandiose ways. One of these important people, for me, has been my father.
Since I was a little kid, my dad has always been there for me. Even though he and my mother divorced when I was a child, and it was not easy for him to make the long trek up, he would find a way to come up and spend what little time he had with me. Due to him, I have been able to grow as a person by looking at myself and the people around me; if he had not pressed me forward, I could very well have turned out to be a less confident person with lower self-esteem. That is where I come in to help others--my aim from now on will be to help others who have little pride in themselves believe in their abilities a little more. I want to help other people feel gratified with themselves, for them to trust in their abilities and. In a way, I have already been subconsciously doing this through talking up my friends, or offering a kind compliment to a passing peer.
I will admit that, at first, expressing my thanks was a little awkward and forced; I had been doing it just for the assignment. After all, it was odd to bring this heavy talk out of nowhere. As I talked to my dad, though, I really began thinking into all the things he had done for me, and it truly became heartfelt. I felt happy and admired him for his strenuous efforts--I realized I could still see that wondrous, committed flicker within him, the one that had pushed me as a child and I had believed had slowly burned out over the course of his and my own arduous
