I asked Karina “What makes you remember this pressure?”. I asked her this question because I knew from my personal experienced that there’s constantly something that makes people who are under this type of pressure remember it.
The answer Karina gave was a phrase that she constantly repeats to herself, the phrase was “Si yo pierdo mi familia pierde” which means ( If I lose my family loses too). When she told me this I could imagine every scenario possible in which she could remember this phrase. I knew the pressure something like this could put on someone because like her I also had a phrase that my parents told me which was “In the future when you go to college and become a doctor, you will be able to give the same things to your family”.
I decided to ask her this specific third question because throughout whole interview I felt such a strong connection in our situations so I wanted to see if she felt the same way. I had agreed to meet with my friend jack, who’s a total nerd that focuses way too much on school so I could interview him. I decided to interview jack because he had told me throughout our middle school and our freshman year how his parents expect so much from him, and that’s why his the way he is toward school. As I was asking him questions I felt the same connection I did with Karina, therefore I decided to ask him the exact last question I asked Karina.
The answer jack gave me was “ I like to think of this pressure as something positive, so I use it to push myself on daily bases because even though my parents expect so much from me, I know they’re putting the standards high because they want a better future for me”
After the answer I got from jack I remember the answer I got from Karina because their situations were so similar to mine, however they reacted so different to this pressure because they use this pressure to push themselves and do more in their daily life and I think of this pressure as the think that doesn’t let me do other stuff in my daily life. As I got my result from the interviews and analyzed them, I realize that people can be in this ethnicity where they get pressure toward their academics but consequently I also realize that people in this ethnicity can deal with this pressure differently for example me in a negative way and Karina and Jack in a positive

That is what you call "pressure." Pressure causes many effects that are uncalled for. In most cases being under pressure, normally, is more negative than positive being that it brings self regrets.
Me and Christina were taking in the same nursing program. A month or so of knowing her I decided I'd find find out if she had known Mary. Maybe she was a relative, aunt, friend '' Mary was my mother" she said. I didn't know how to respond, I was so in shock. I needed to know everything about Mary that I never knew. They came not knowing a lick of English, and to this day, they still don’t understand it that well. They constantly badgered me about school. Drilling me on math. Drilling me on science. Drilling me on English. They encouraged me to take higher level classes and pushed me to work hard. All because they don’t want me carrying the heavy burden they have to carry with them everyday. They don’t wish for me to work in a low paying job like they do. They don’t wish for me to struggle. They don’t wish for me to be stepped on. So I do carry around an undeniably visible aura of pressure. Pressure to do good. Pressure to do better. Pressure to be the best I can be. Obviously I can’t be Einstein, but I should listen to their advice and try.
There was always going to be pressure on me in one form or another, whether it be from my Mom, a teacher, or even my friends. But, I learned that letting these expectations compromise who I was; letting them get in my way by making me doubt myself, was never good. And I’m not writing this to say expectations are a bad thing. Expectations from others or myself are healthy, they provide us standards to hold ourselves to and present us with attainable goals. However, letting these expectations define you in moments in which you have to step to the plate and “swing” in life is never a good thing.
In the essay, he states that he sees “four kinds of pressure working on college students today: economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self-induced pressure” (398). He goes on to explain what goes through the minds of college students when dealing with the four stated pressures as well as academic pressures. While putting the thoughts of college students on display, Zinsser emphasizes the stress that they are forced to succumb to due to the stated pressures. He explains, “Today it is not unusual for a student, even if he works part-time at college and full-time during the summer, to accrue $5,000 in loans after four years--loans that he must start to repay within one year after graduation. Exhorted at commencement to go forth into the world, he is already behind as he goes forth” (400). In the quote, Zinsser explains the economical aspect of the four listed pressures. He clarifies that most students who pursue higher education do not graduate unscathed from school loans. He then questions his audience on the rationality of a college student going through school without thinking about the large sums of money that must be repaid by them: “How could he not feel under pressure throughout college to prepare for this day of reckoning?” (400). This description helps Zinsser effectively explain to his audience the hardship of dealing with just one of the four pressures he enumerated. Zinsser also uses rhetorical questions to let the audience know that he respects their point of view but also to further his own point. When explaining how parents would rather their children enroll in courses that will lead them to a financially fulfilling degree, Zinsser answers the question that audience members are thinking: “Where’s the payoff on the humanities? Peer pressure on adolescents has been a widely discussed topic amongst parents, guardians and researchers. Many question how can parents prevent young adults from following the wrong foot steps of friends or other role models. For the most part, we are too focused on bad peer pressure and no one seems to question, that peer pressure can also be beneficial to adolescents. The fact of the matter, peer pressure is completely circumstantial and many factors have a role for adolescents to have a positive effect, for example the atmosphere of the individual, previous development, and spontaneous experience with peers. Numerous possibilities from the mentioned circumstances of peer pressure could resonate into having a positive effect on the person 's life. Some scenarios of the circumstances mentioned above can be argued to be either Indirect or direct forms of peer pressure, and can also be both.
The first point I want to make in this speech is that peer pressure is NOT a bad thing. We all are influenced by our peers, both negatively and positively. It helps define who we are and how we feel about subjects in our lives. It is how we chose to react to peer pressure that defines who we are as an individual. Are we a leader or a follower? Both types of people are needed to make the world go round.
Remember when you were first taught the concept of peer pressure back in elementary school? Your teachers educated you on the value of respecting yourself and others around you and to never force someone to do something that they do not want to do. As we get older, the lessons of peer pressure go on without much to say. We experience life and learn from our mistakes. We think that we carry our wits about us everywhere we go when we are with groups of people. We may think that we, as older students, are not subjected to peer pressure, but it happens more times than we think.
The academic pressure is one of the major stress factors in my life. The academic environment is very competitive and everyone wants to be the best. Not only are am I competing with my peers, I am also competing with myself. I always want to exceed my expectations. Which can cause me to become anxious at times. The academic pressure has many sublevels to it. Making excellent grades, homework, projects, essays, online work, class scheduling, exams, and many other aspects that are involved with school.
Peer pressure is when a person is pressured by a this person's peer group to do a certain action, adopt values, or conform to be accepted by the peer group. What society and the law says to do is not always equal to what is spoken by one’s peer group, because consequences come from actions which can destroy, harm or affect others. The effects of peer pressure can be positive or negative, as shown in George Orwell’s short autobiography “Shooting an Elephant”, British imperialism, or in modern day actions and discipline.
