Escaping is a pleasure to some people and to some it was a necessity, like to Jack Werber, “Escape was not our goal since it was so unrealistic. What we wanted was to survive, to live long enough to tell the world what had happened in Buchenwald.” This quote by Jack Werber is inspiring to some people. Jack Werber did live long enough to tell his story, like a lot of Tutsis in the Rwandan genocide. The Rwandan Genocide impacted not only the Tutsis, but the world.
Its surprising how a place outside of the United States made such a big impact on the world. A genocide similar to the Holocaust took place in a small african country. Rwanda, is a small landlocked state in central and east Africa. Located a few degrees south of the Equator. Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On April 6, 1994 in Rwanda Africa, the beginning of a massive slaughter began. The mass murdering took place on the same day the Habyarimana president’s plane got shot down and killed him and the rest of the people on board. This is what caused the beginning of the Rwandan Genocide.
Getting rid of the Tutsis was thought of by the Akuza, Rwandan Army, The national army, Interahamwe, Impuzamugambi, and the Hutu population. It started because of the conflict between the Hutu government and the RWF. Within Rwanda, Hutu exterminist among the countries political elite, blamed the Tutsi population for the countries increasing social, economic, and political pressure. When all this was happening, war between Hutus and Tutsis broke out on October 2nd 1990, when the Tutsi rebel group RDF, invaded Rwanda from the North. All the Hutus blamed the Tutsis for supporting the Rebels.
