Pablo Picasso, although usually known as just Picasso. His full name though is actually: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso. His signature is worth more than some of his paintings. In fact in some restaurants he just drew a quick face and then signed it (when he was famous). He was one of the most well known people in the 20th century. He was born in 25th of October 1881 in Malaga, Spain, and then died on the 8th of April 1973 Mougins, France. He was a: painter, drawing, sculpture, print making, and ceramics.

There have been many artist who have risen to popularity in the land known as Mexico and there are many who also have become world renown. Heremenegildo Bustos not only was the pride of his town, but historically eventually became known as one of the best Mexican artist of the turn of the Century. Although Bustos was mainly a portraitist he had a superb ability in creating retablos and exvotos which he became well known for.

Juan Gris was born in 1887. He was a Spanish born French painter who went to the cubist school. Originally his name was Jose Vittoriano Gonzalez, he was born in Madrid and educated there. He left Madrid in 1906 and went to Paris, making the acquaintance of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso and of the French painter Georges Braque. Gris's first cubist paintings, generally more calculated than those of Picasso and Braque, appeared in 1912. He spent the next summer in Céret, France, with Picasso, and while there adopted the use of papier collé, shapes cut from paper and glued to the canvas.

Since the marriage in August 21st, 1929 Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo have been Mexico’s most important couple artists. While Diego was famous for painting in large murals, Frida was only known as his wife. However, in 1938, Frida’s small paintings were starting to get attention. Her style was unique, she had a talent that not many other artists did. She was willing to go to places where no one else has ever gone. Just like Frida, Diego had his own style. They both focused on the working class and their desire to use their art to transform political views.

The subject of this sculpture is Fernande Olivier. She was Picasso's lover. Fernande’s real name was Amelie Lang. She had worked as an artist's model in Montmartre and was an aspiring painter. They had spent the summer of 1909 in the Spanish mountains, where Picasso painted Fernande in a similarly way. He made this head almost as soon as he returned to Paris. Picasso spoke about being caught by her beauty and began a long term relationship with Fernande Olivier; however by 1909, when he made this head the strain in their relationship was showing. By 1912, the relationship had ended.
