Lead Character Analysis

As I was watching the exploits of the female lead character, I cannot help myself become amused of how she lived her daily life. For many, simply looking at her actions will then give them an idea that she is not mentally sane. But then it is important to bear in mind that a person’s actions are not the sole basis of his mental health. According to Matsumoto and Juang (2008), the statistics of behavior, deviance, reliance on subjective distress reports and the ability of the individual to carry out his duties as a person are the things that must be looked into to determine a person’s well-being. . Another criteria that can be considered is Nolen-Hoeksema’s basis of abnormality.(2007). According to this, cultural relativism, unusualness, discomfort, maladaptiveness and mental illness are the important factors to be considered before a person is labeled as abnormal or insane.

Applying these standards to how the lead role tries to overcome the daily trials of life, I can say that she is mentally sane. I do not want to solely base my judgment on the absurdity of her behavior among a huge number of people because all of us have our own absurdities, but we do not consider ourselves abnormal. She may seem to have uncoordinated body movements, and seem to have a world of her own as she listens to very loud music, but it is obvious on how she is able to be a productive person which satisfies what I consider the most important basis of normality. She works very hard, and do what she is told to do; a trait that is sometimes very hard to find among people who consider themselves sane. Another trait that satisfies this criterion was how she was saving up to go to California. Just like any person, she has dreams of her own that she wanted to...

Looking at the real character in the movie made me realize that we all lose our sanity and rationality at a certain point in our lives. It is not right to simply judge a person’s sanity without considering the kind of environment he grew up in, and how often does he do this kind of behavior. Indeed, the lead role in the movie is an epitome of someone who is not afraid to be herself. Indeed, it is not right to judge people who are very much happy to be themselves and consider them abnormal or worse dysfunctional because they are not doing anything that can harm other people. After all, we are all doing what we can to fit in and at the same time remaining to stick to who we really are. We all have our absurdities of our own, and we all know that we do not want to be judged based on our oddities.
