John F. Kennedy chose to write this essay because he was attempting to show us the vision the he had for our world. Kennedy’s purpose of writing the “Inaugural Address” was to challenge us to change our way of thinking and become better not only for ourselves, but for our country so that we may function more efficiently. Some major weaknesses are when the author explains how half the globe is struggling and how we would not be able to help everyone. A major strength is when the author gives multiple examples of how to make our world better. If I was the author, I would not do anything differently with this essay. I would keep the points that talk about unifying our world because it has a positive message that hints toward improving our future. When might we obtain the ability to unite the entire world? How will we make sure we keep our promise? Who can we trust to lead us in the right direction? Pessimistic would object to the author’s main points asserted in this essay. Their major objections would be towards uniting the entire world. The author would respond by stating to only think positive. I would agree with the author because positivity is towards the right path. The entire page 310 best illustrates the author’s skillful use of language. On March 4, 1865, Abraham Lincoln talked to the People of the Nation, those of the seceded states also including those apart of the Confederacy, about how the war was still engulfing their thoughts. He proceeded to inform those citizens about slavery causing the war and his theory of God controlling the outcome of it. Since he was President previously before and this was his Second Inaugural address, he was believed to be credible. Lincoln implied that he was confident in what was going to come for the future by saying, “I trust, reasonably satisfactory and encouraging to all.” (Lincoln, line 7-8). The excerpt from Lincoln’s address is effective at convincing the audience to stop encouraging the on going issue of slavery. For example, the wars expansion was a big problem to the nation. It would not have happened without slavery and while they had to go through this war, they were not going to settle for anything less than peace among the nations at the end of it.

During this time the Cold War was occurring, causing both America and the Soviet Union to compete in an arms race to see who could make the most nuclear weapons. JFK's inaugural address was very inspirational and these are just some important factors that I found to be interesting. His speech used strong words but they were very understandable. It would have been a joy to actually experience being there for this speech.
By delivering his inaugural speech, President Kennedy mentioned not only the American people, but also people from all over the world including new states, old allies, and the Soviet Union. He also sought to inspire the nation after a long, divided election; to alleviate the growing fear of drawn-out cold war, and to bless the hope for peace in the nuclear age. By using the extensive use of rhetorical devices, the President successfully completed and fulfilled the goals of his speech. Therefore, after reading his inaugural speech, I strongly want to choose this speech as an analysis for my research paper. I will analyze John F. Kennedy’s inaugural speech based on the idea of social cohesion about liberty, give evidence and number how this speech has influenced thousands of people based on its eloquence and persuasiveness.

Kennedy’s emotion presented the whole free world with a responsibility to spread freedom, justice, and to rid the world of evils. In addition, he calls upon the American people to stand strong as the backbone of the attempt to win the “long twilight struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war.” Kennedy wanted the people to be reenergized about defending freedom, a hallmark of American society. By reminding his audience of their forefathers and instigating parallels between “the first revolution” and the present generation, “born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage,” the president grasps the attention of the audience.
