We Have Been Created for Community
“God the Trinity is, in a profound sense, community. Human beings are made for communion with God and nurturing relationship with one another. Creation healed therefore means the restoration of healthy community in multiple definitions” (Snyder/ Scandrett 206). The argument that is made in chapter 13 is that we have been created to be in community with others, and that community is not only essential for us in our everyday lives, but in our Christian walk as well. The theme of being in community and our Cor group’s project is very similar. Cor Group 4 is interested in creating networking between both current Greenville College students and Greenville College alumni. Just like Snyder, we see what networking would mean for Greenville College students and that Greenville College could potentially benefit from this type of community.
Like stated previously, Snyder talks about how important community is to the body of Christ. Snyder comes up with six dimensions of this community in which everyone lives. According to the author, the number one dimension is the community with God through Jesus and without this one the others would not exist. He says that this is the most important dimension because Jesus died for us and he was ultimately a gift to us. Snyder says that this is a vertical relationship. Then there are the other 5 dimensions of community which are horizontal relationships that go hand in hand with each other. Snyder believes that community can enrich the church, and the lives the Christians in their daily walk.
The first and most important dimension that Snyder uses is “community with God through Jesus by the Holy Spirit.” The dimension is described as the community that...

Lastly, “solidarity with the entire human family on Earth and with all creation” is that final dimension of community. This is a complex dimension of community. The author says that we are called to live in solidarity with all of creation for a few different reasons. For example, we should live in solidarity with all humans because our mission is for the entire world. This means that God calls us to go and teach people about him. If there is no solidarity with the world, then how are Christians supposed to do this? For our Cor group, it will be important to keep this in mind. Even though we planned on just reaching out to Greenville College alumni, community is a lot bigger than that.
