Importance Of Volunteer Service

I will be participating in multiple volunteer activities throughout my Simpson career because I am a Wesley Service Scholar, which means I must complete eighty hours of volunteer work in two semesters to receive a scholarship provided by the college. I also helped out throughout high school and really enjoyed it, so I plan on continuing my service work. I am anxious to experience a variety of opportunities at Simpson College and in the Des Moines area. I recently volunteered at a program called the Breakfast Club through the Children’s and Family Urban Movement where I learned a lot about myself and the children involved. I plan on being more involved in service work during my college career than I was during my high school career. I chose to participate in the Breakfast Club because I love to interact with kids, and it sounded interesting to me. In Breakfast Club, volunteers are much appreciated to help serve the kids breakfast before school, help keep them entertained with activities and walk them to school. This program is completely run by people who are willing to make a difference in some children’s lives. By participating in the Breakfast Club, I will learn to listen carefully to what the children have to say and be able to give them a reasonable and kind response. It seems that every time I serve, I learn something from it or start to look at life from a different perspective in certain situations. Participating in service work helps me feel more involved and genuinely happy because I know I’m helping someone and something that needs it. I’m planning on continuing to help out at the Breakfast Club at least once a week to keep myself involved and the children satisfied. I will continue to volunteer throughout my entire Simpson career and future life because I love the feeling of knowing I’m doing good for the
