Volunteering can be gratifying and everyone should experience giving time to others without expecting anything in return. I have some history with The Excel Center in Kokomo, I am a recent graduate from there and have spent time tutoring when I can, to help other students succeed. After leaving there, I considered a future career within the walls of the school, I have even been told on numerous occasions that I am more than welcomed back after I finish my degree. Once I knew I had to volunteer in a human service field, I knew I wanted to give The Excel Center a shot right away, knowing this was a guaranteed place to be challenged and given an honest opinion of my work.
Sarah Scott, the lead instructor, contacted me just to see how my progress

I was assigned a student that is deaf and has a learning disability, Kerri. Kerri struggles with understanding what she needs to learn in class and has to have all of what is said typed out in notes for her to go through later on at home. While helping her, at first she was extremely resistant to having me as her aid, after the first week she was excited to see me which was something enjoyable for myself. I spend an hour each day in class with her and an hour out of class with Kerri. During our time outside of class I was asked to try to connect on “at home issues” with her since she struggles to care about her …show more content…

This Semester I observed a three-year-old girl named Allie. Allie attends preschool at Land of Learning; she is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. It was my pleasure observing her and getting to know her. She is a very sweet outgoing girl that doesn’t let her disability get to her. I observed and assisted Allie throughout her days at preschool. I assisted her and observed her with recess activities, eating lunch, and daily school projects. My past observation experiences I observed at Westgate elementary school in a class room mixed with students with learning disabilities, ADHD and also ELL students the class was taught by Ms. Lewis. I observed a second grade ELL classroom and also a fourth grade classroom. I observed these students during school
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.
volunteering is a person who freely offers to take part in an enterprise or undertake a task. In this report i will talk about the different types of volunteering in the:
In the study of Interpersonal Communications, you find so much more about yourself than you could possibly imagine. To stand there face to face with a stranger someone could wonder how well he or she can uphold a creditable conversation. From just a relationship someone has with their family, to workplace relationships, as well as online relations, learning how to deal with interactions is a lot simpler than someone would think. I have found that volunteering in my community is a big step into helping the community all together.
I learned about the importance of giving back at the age of 11yr old and putting the very important needs of others in front of my own. Volunteering in a homeless shelter at a young age opened my eyes. Where I was placed to give food, clothes, money & hygiene products to people in need. Where would I be right now without the help of God, my mother, family& friends and the church community”. Giving a helping hand to the people in the community is Something we should always do. In the ("bible Acts 20:35 says in everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the lord Jesus himself said: it is more blessed to give than to receive"). Having a compassionate heart for the community blesses the congregation.
Volunteering to me is much more than just something I’m doing to build my resume, its something that I actually enjoy doing. In high school I was heavily involved in Key Club, an international service organization that promotes aiding others and student leadership. The collegiate version of Key Club is Circle K International (CKI), which is another Kiwanis sponsored organization; this organization advocates and performs community service at hundreds of campuses across the globe. I decided to join Circle K in college to continue evolving with an organization whose goal is to help develop community-minded leaders.
Volunteering enables a person to develop new skills that he or she would otherwise not have been able to develop. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Therefore, an individual with little experience in a field of work can gain meaningful skills that he or she can use in the future. For example, while I volunteered at the hospital this summer, I learned about the daily work lives and professional duties of doctors and nurses. Had I not volunteered, I would not have learned about these things. I was always interested in the medical field, but volunteering at the hospital let me explore my interests and en...
I have volunteered at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic as Spanish/English interpreter since July 2014. Most of the patients at this clinic are Spanish-speaking undocumented adults who do not have any other form of access to health care. From this experience, I have been able to learn from the medical students, physicians, pharmacists, and patients about the different obstacles this disadvantaged community has to get access to health care services. I was also able to volunteer at this same clinic as a research assistant at a diabetes study for food insecure patients. This experience opened my eyes to a problem that I knew that existed, food insecurity, but did not know how big and common this problem was. While recruiting participants for this
I chose to do service learning because I do better learning hands on and I felt like it would a good experience for me to volunteer. Volunteering helps build character and helps with people skills and with me wanting to be a nurse. Volunteering helps me work on my people skills and how to have empathy for others less fortune than me which as a nurse I need to have when people come into the hospital and they could be having the worse day of their life and they are counting me to be there for them. I went through my church who works with the Houston Food Bank, I spoke with Clara Price who oversees food bank and she told that the volunteering is twice a month on Wednesdays and Thursdays where they package the food on Wednesday and pass them out
First of all, I would let her know that I am here to help and support her. I would ask her to evaluate her classroom environment, and classroom management; and consider making some changes. Classroom environment plays a big role in a student’ s education. If children feel safe, comfortable, welcome, can express themselves, and enjoy being in you classroom, then they are more likely to have a better learning experience. They will be open to try new things, participate and communicate with the teacher and their peers. As a teacher, all of your students should feel like they are a part of the class; regardless of social economic status, cultures, or disabilities. One way to include all students is to get to know them by having them tell/about
I think this entire experience has been amazing and everyone should volunteer at least once in their life. It might even change their major! I had already planned on working with my community, specifically in the behavioral/mental health area, so this experience just opened my eyes to how much of a difference I can make by such simple gestures. This class was a way for me to get out of my comfort zone and now I will continue to volunteering even after this class ends. I will be moving to Lexington soon and will find even more volunteer opportunities there! I realize that each community has needs as should everyone else, volunteering can really open your eyes to
As a company, it is important to be able to contribute to the community. Showing the community that it can grow and trust an organization in its area is important for success in the future. One of the best ways to provide the reassurance to the people or customer is to show that not every aspect of the company is about profit is volunteering. Volunteering provides many good services to the people that are assisted. This is something that can be utilized by the youth elderly while helping the company and community in all.
Individualism is rampant in our world. More and more people are concerned with what they want, when they want it and how they want it. They put blinders on and go about their work, convinced that “looking out for number one” is the only way to succeed and find happiness. If everyone were to adopt this way of thinking and living, the world would become violently competitive, gloomy, and callous. However, if we open our lives and give service to those less fortunate than ourselves, we allow our hearts to receive immeasurable happiness. There are countless members of society, who make service and ultimately self-sacrifice a part of their everyday lives. One of the greatest examples the world has of a self-sacrificing person is Mother Teresa. She said, “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love… It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.” Doctors Without Borders is a powerful humanitarian organization that was most recently volunteering in Haiti. Part of their mission statement reads, “…We unite direct medical care with a commitment to bearing witness and speaking out against the underlying causes of suffering. Our aid workers and staff protest violations of humanitarian law on behalf of populations who have no voice, and bring the concerns of their patients to public forums…” These are just two mainstream examples of people and organizations that live and work for others, to improve the quality of their lives.
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
