During the beginning of my youth, I spent several nights sleeping in my mom 's bed. At the end of each night instead of hearing the notes of a lullaby, I often heard the soft crackle of a crisp page being turned in a book. Almost every night she would read, to herself of course. She didn 't read to me like a stereotypical mother would. On one hand, this seems harsh, but it was her display of passion that made me want to read. After giving birth to my two older sisters, my mom had built up an impressive personal children 's library. There were a limitless number of books I could read. Considering the fact that I wasn 't at the reading level to read those books myself, after my sister read them to me it was easier for me to read them on my own and understand them. She would read books from the Harry Potter series, A Series Of Unfortunate Events series and Nicholas Sparks’ A Walk To Remember. At the age of four, I was able to read and enjoy all these famous book series and authors. As I started kindergarten, I found myself bored in school. The lesson plan did not account for my higher education in literature. My teachers used to believe that I was actually slow at learning. When they complained to my mother, she would respond "He reads at home all the time. When he 's not reading is watching TV about reading.” This is very true; both before and after school I would watch PBS 's programming on literature, writing, math and sciences. I was and I still am a slower writer. Writing causes problems throughout my school career and still does. I can take me hours to write essays that for average people takes about 30 minutes. I was in the honors English class freshman year of high school. I enjoyed it; I love the material and what I was writing about. But the timed essays were too much for me to handle and pulled down my grade. I was forced quit the class and demote myself to standard English. My writing was still a problem I always needed extra time. Even though I am a slow writer and it is painful to write, I still like to write creative stories. During fifth grade we were assigned to do several free writes as part of our English curriculum. This is where my love for writing creative stories began. I would write short stories and poems and try to start novels. I 've never been able to actually finish a novel, but one day I hope
