Gun Control

Gun control is defined as the laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms (Wikipedia 1). According to the second amendment, all citizens of the United States have the right to bear arms. Is this the reason gun laws in the United States are more laxed than in any other country? As with most laws, why is it that each state gets to make their own gun control laws rather that follow a federal mandate? Why does the NRA fight so hard for the right to bear arms as opposed to protecting society from mad men? We need to ask ourselves if protecting a person’s right to carry and bear arms is more important than preventing lives from being taken at the hands of a gun owner.

The Brady Bill was first introduced into Congress in 1987 by James S. Brady. Many congressman staunchly opposed the bill because they questioned the constitutionality of regulating the ownership of arms (History 1).
Many incidents of mass shootings have fueled the debate on gun control. Mass murders against our children due to gun violence has caused an uproar, prompting more talks of stricter gun control laws in America. The shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT brought forth many debates for stricter gun control laws. According to Tracy Miller “Firearm injuries are an important and preventable cause of morbidity in the pediatric age range.”
Americans stand divided on many topics and gun control is one that is always in the fore front. People who are for stricter gun control laws argue that banning guns will saves lives, there are already too many so arming everyone won’t help and more guns more homicides (Morris 1). People that are against gun control argue that gun control equals absolute despotism, laws don’t apply to criminals so why would it matter and literary infallibility (Flamehorse
