Gun control is a hot issue in the wake of so many recent, tragic mass shootings. So, what is gun control? Gun control which is also known as firearms regulations refers to laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms. Some people would argue that gun control is generally a widespread of gun ownership that increases the danger of gun violence while others would argue that gun control does not increase the crime rate as far as gun violence; however it does violate individual liberties. Gun control is the heart of the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. The Second Amendment of the Constitution states that citizens have the right to possess and bear arms. Some people believe that gun control is necessary and it will help as far as decreasing crime and making the nation a safer place for us to live. On the other hand, there are people who speak of anti-gun control and which they believe the right to bear arms would make our nation a safe place to live. Do you think the Government has the right to make something illegal like the right to bear arms? In my opinion, the Government cannot because they would be offending our founding fathers, who gave to us this nation as a right to bear arms and for making us the free nation we are today. What is gun control? State laws vary and are independent of existing federal firearms laws, although they are sometimes broader or more limited in scope than the federal laws. Per former President George W. Bush, “A teenage is more likely to die from a gunshot than from all natural causes of death combined. This is unacceptable in America” (Parnell, 2009). I do agree with his statement; however, I do believe we as citizens should have that right to protect ourselves against criminals. Guns get from dealers to criminals in part through trafficking.
