We all want to be successful in life and that success isn’t just going to fall into your lap. To achieve goals in life you have to have the right mindset. When you have a growth mindset you have higher chances to succeed because giving up isn’t a option for you. A person growth mindset believes that through practice, hard work and determination you can achieve anything. The articles we have read and spoke about in class are all connected in the fact that they all speak in some shape or form about a growth mindset. A growth mindset will help a person be successful by not giving up, determination,deliberate practice, challenging yourself and going above and beyond.

“Our brains are changing constantly” Dweck states as he explains two mindsets and which makes you more successful. A fixed mindset is the opposite of a growth, these people tend to just settle instead of going above and beyond. “Those with a growth mindset had a very straightforward (and correct) idea of effort - the idea that the harder you work, the more your ability will grow.” (Pg 2 dweck) this is the reality of a growth mindset, open to learn and take on challenges. “You had to be free in your heart. Guilt, fear, anger” in this statement Cotton was talking about not being irate with jennifer for putting him in prison for a crime he did not commit. Ronald was wrongly incarcerated for over 10 years but his growth mindset is what kept him going as well as why he got out. Cotton was always trying to exonerate himself from prison and did not give up even after his lawyers started to lose faith.
