Group Learning/Learning from Others Group learning and learning from others is basically how somebody successfully uses another person to learn information for themselves. It is a group of people that come together to combine their knowledge and thoughts in order to work together towards a goal. Some examples of ways that a group can execute this type of learning is by trial and error, talking through an issue with a group discussion, just a general conversation putting all of the group member’s knowledge on the table, and many more. I think that an important aspect of group learning is that when a group member doesn’t know a key aspect of the learning, the others try their best in order to help them understand. The graph in his chapter that is titled “The Structure of the Theory” exemplifies why he would value this. This graph is all about inputs and outputs, or what factors of learning contribute to the end goal. I believe that Illeris would say that group learning is all about people having a previous knowledge base, combining their thoughts from all different approaches and having different idea, and applying it to the given problem. Illeris also talks about how outside conditions can affect the learning of the group. This could have to do with the group dynamic and if they have learning styles that even mesh together. It isn’t a given that people of different backgrounds will automatically work great together. We had a wide range of talents, which helped us immensely throughout this entire process. Having three baseball players helped us to think of our storyline, while having two non-baseball players, one of whom plays no sports, helped us to see things from the other side of the spectrum. I thought that this was fantastic as it gave two different perspectives that changed our video for the better. In my opinion, having different types of thinkers is what makes group-work great. Two people might end up with the same final though, or final result, but the process was completely different in getting there. That is what was happening in our group as we worked very well both on our own and as a group. Filming this movie opened our eyes to new perspectives and new talents that I don’t know if any of us knew we had. We may not have ever discovered them if we had not worked so well
