How did GM motors come about?
(1) You may be asking your self. Well I am getting ready to explain how the big motor company empire came to be what it is today. Anyway lets get on with it already. General Motors company started on September 16th of 1908 by William ‘Billy’ Durant. The company had become an industry leader in manufacturing horse-drawn carriages in Flint Michigan before going into the automobile industry. At the time they only owned Buick Motor Company. Now they own the following automobile manufacturers: GMC, Buick, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Saturn, Cadillac, Hummer, Oldsmobile and many more.
(2) Chevy was founded on November 3, 1911 by Louis Chevrolet as well as William Durant. The first automobile they came out with is the Model D 4 passenger roadster powered by a v8 engine. The first vehicle GMC manufactured was a commercial vehicle called the GMC Electric Furniture Delivery Truck that came out in 1913. Pontiac started as Pontiac Buggy Company in 1893 by Edward Murphy and they were building horse-drawn carriages. Later on in 1907 Murphy realized that the future was motor vehicles and decided to turn the buggy company into Oakland Motor Company. They now go by Pontiac Motors again. Shortly after in 1909 General Motors bought the company when Murphy died and the first car came out in 1926 it was a 5 passenger motor coach with a six cylinder motor meant to outrun a four cylinder vehicle. Saturn was founded on January 7th, 1985 by Joseph Sanchez. Unfortunately I could not find information on their first vehicle released. Cadillac actually has an interesting history it was founded in 1902 by Ford Motor Company and then about 7 years later in 1909 General Motors Motor Company bought Cadillac from Ford Motor Company...
