"By improving decision making, knowledge management, employee needs and coordination, workplace communication has a significant effect on organizational performance" (McShane & Glinow, 2005). Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
The telecommunications industry is facing major economic pressures. Global Communications is one of the organizations in the industry that struggles to stay competitive. The struggle is due to recent decline in their share which fell more than fifty percent. Global Communications is required to implement new plans to restructure their company. Stockholders are concerned but speculate how the industry will bounce back from the recent decline on Wall Street. Global Communications are marketed locally and not internationally, so they know that this is one issue they need to address. It is essential that Global Communications make the best choices that would move toward a good solution. "Decision making is a conscious process of making choices among one or more alternatives with the intention of moving toward some desired state of affairs (Shull Jr, Delbecq & Cummings, 1970). Global Communications will decide how they will achieve their most important goal, "Becoming a global resource". They know that organizations that are global will achieve more and at a cheaper cost. One way Global Communications will achieve this goal will be relocating there centers to India and Ireland. Their customers want more technical sophistication from their employees, and based on the research Global Communications has done, they found that India and Ireland are experts at achieving technical sophistication at a cheaper price.
Stakeholder Perspectives/Ethical Dilemmas
The main stakeholders in Global Communications are The Union, the executives and the employees. The executives of Global Communications are trying to strategize ways to stay afloat with all the competition.

Within an organization one of the key tools that they use is that of: communication. Communication is a primary key to any organization and without it there is no cohesion, no leadership, and no functionality. As communication begins to diminish, so does the organization – as one article puts it: “These new economic…. imperatives have significantly contributed to the demise of the old classic command-and-control bureaucracy…” (Tiernan et al, 2002, 47-48). From what this article states, the lack of communication has led to a semi-collapse of the mechanistic structure of an organization. Though communication does seem like a huge factor of an organization, communication does not come without its troubles within the inter-organizations; if there is communication going on in a company, there is going to also be a lack of communication. When a company has employed thousands of people (or maybe just a small amount) they are hiring a whole selection of individuals to work as whole group in unity – though this does seem like an amazing idea, these sets of individuals will have quite ...
Another problem is ineffective communication. According Herman Aguinis, managers should listen to others, process the information and communicate effectively. They should also instill trust and provide proper direction to their team. As leaders, they should guide, develop and motivate to im...
Communication is also suggested by others to be avoided, as it might alert competitors or cause employees to leave an organization rather than endure painful changes (Buono & Bowditch, 1989). It can also threaten management’s ability to respond flexibly to changes during a merger or acquisition process (Eisenberg and Witten, 1987).
Space is crucial when it comes to communicating, the space that you are surrounded by will shape all aspects of the communicating you do. Space is always communicating meaning and from the spaces I observed on campus and in the Student Center I drew meaning from them which allowed me to understand what each space is communicating and what see how each space encouraged or hindered communication. In this paper I will explain my critiques as well as my approval of the quad on campus and the Student Center, I also will give students opinions how the Student Center succeeds or fails in encouraging communication and lastly give my ideas of how space in the quad as well as the Student Center can be improved to encourage a greater level of communication.
It has also utilized processes to improve team communication and decision making. The company has an Ethics Awareness Program that helps employees make ethical decisions in tough situations. The company has also been aware of when there are communication issues in the company. There was a situation in the past where engineering teams were not getting along on a program. Management did everything that they could but failed. Lockheed Martin turned to the Vanto Group to aid in the situation. Employees had to participate in various sessions. In these sessions they voiced their concerns and opinions. They developed solutions for the issues. At the end of the sessions, those who had participated in the Vanto Group Program had a more positive attitude. Productivity increased due to the fact that each team member was collaborating with each other. As a result of this program, not only did communication and decision making improve but the project that they were initially working on was
Communication is the key to having a successful business. A company must be able communicate the overall plan and future goals to their employees so the employees can support the organizations goals. Global Communication's first issue was the lack of communication to the union about their need to enter international markets for the company to expand. The second issue was also a lack of communication to the union about their plans to outsource the technical call center to India and Ireland, which would in turn affect the employee's job status. They should have contacted the union president and furnished their goals to them before moving forward. This would have opened up the communication process and not left the union workers in the dark.
The events that led to the changes Global Communications are making came about with the shift in technology and the competition within the telecommunications industry. With companies able to compete globally, there is too much competition within the industry from other telecommunications companies as well as cable companies who can offer all the same services. With increased companies offering a wide range of services, Global is forced to cut costs in order to compete effectively and increase profitability. To this end, Global Communications senior management has come up with an approach to outsource some of their call centers to India and Ireland and expand new services to small business and consumer customers. Global also joined with a satellite provider to offer video services and a satellite version of broadband. This will mean job cuts and a reduction in salary for employees who remain and are relocated. The plan was accepted quickly and now management is under the gun to communicate the changes effectively to the employees without risking a morale problem that could affect productivity. Also, since the employees belong to a trade union and the union was not involved in the process of negotiating these changes, Global has to consider the legal and public relation implications of not fulfilling their contractual obligation to the trade union.
Promote communication within an organization vertically and horizontally while balancing various management and operational elements;
In today's business environment, there is sustained pressure for companies to maximize productivity in order to be competitive in the marketplace. Many businesses are moving a variety of activities, such as manufacturing and product development, to countries with low labour costs. They are also opening up sales channels in many new markets. The resulting global organizations need to structure themselves, so that they can effectively manage operations across numerous locations. This paper looks at how the organizational structure of a global company influences decision-making at the regional level, and how this can affect the business performance. This paper will:

A very common way of differentiate the various kinds of stakeholders is by identifying groups of people who have direct or indirect relationships with the organization. Friedman (2006) mentioned that there is a clear relationship between definitions of what stakeholders and identification of who are the stakeholders for organizations. The examples of main stakeholders in organization are Customers, Employees, Local communities, Suppliers and distributors, Shareholders. Other than those main stakeholders, the groups and individual like the media, public in general, Business partners, Future generations, NGOs or activists, competitors, government, policy maker and regulators are also considered as stakeholder.
If members of a company are to work as a team towards the same goal, communication is very essential.
