The first time I used programming was in primary school. Using Logo programming language. I was able to draw pictures and even create games. The charm of programming is very attractive to me. While in high school I participated in the National Olympiad in Informatics in Provinces (NOIP) and trained every day solving over 300 questions in total. Through unrelenting efforts, I was awarded first prize three times. Because of this experience I laid a solid foundation for my algorithm skills and it has taught me to always solve problems in a comprehensive way. Eventually, I was recommended for admission to the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) because of my specialty in programming and superior academic skills.

As the undergraduate major in Computer Science combines a solid core of Computer Science courses with the ability to gain substantial depth in other areas via a required minor in a second subject such as Human Computer or Robotics and offers unparalleled flexibility, I am certain that there will be no hindrance between me and my goal. Through the Mathematics and Probability Component of the university, I will have the tools to remain current as technologies and systems change, but at the same time gain insight into the practical issues of building and maintaining systems by participating in intensive project-oriented courses. I will certainly benefit from the world-renowned faculty members, with the low student-faculty ratio of just thirteen to one, who keep their office doors open to encourage informal meetings with students. Associating with professors, who are hands-on educators in the classroom and work directly with students in the lab, will acquaint me with the opportunities and rewards available to practicing computer scientists. I can participate in cutting-edge research projects even as an undergraduate and gain valuable experience through unique out of classroom opportunities such as part-time or summer jobs in addition to the various hands-on programs in the university to enhance my skills in the
Ever since I was a child, I have had a great interest for the automotive industry. From car trivia to novel innovations, my innate passion for the automotive industry has always made me research the minutest detail of every vehicle that interested me. Since elementary school I would draw sketches of cars which incorporated technology which were unheard of at that time; novel devices such as electrochromic windshields, HUD displays, and wind turbines which would constantly re-generate electricity for the car. While growing up, my hobbies largely consisted of constructing countless Lego and Meccano sets, and repairing my mom’s 19 year-old car. In middle school, math and science were my favorite subjects: applying science and mathematics to solve real-world problems has fascinated me and I have also taken further steps to reach my goals. By the age of thirteen I devised a scaled model of a heliostat power plant, which successfully powered a light bulb. The mathematics beyond the focus points of parabolic dishes and thermodynamics was very advanced for my age, but I took up the challenge...
When I was in middle school, I had totally no idea of what Computer Science is, but I was pretty proficient in using computers at that age. The only thing that I knew about Computer Science is that one of my aunts is in that field and that’s all, nor of my parents are in that major. Not until in High School that I got the sense of what programming is like. I was taught basic simple codings and I really enjoyed it and thought that the class was actually quite fun. But the class didn’t give me any sense of the important real-world applications of Computer Science. Not until recently as I am in the Computer Science major, I started to really have the real idea and to gain real passion for the field. Computer Science is not all about programming.
I chose Information Technology as my major for undergraduate studies in order to understand how software systems are built. In 3rd semester, I became acquainted with object oriented design. By using this programming paradigm, I was able to code better and faster. I also studied component based development through JavaBeans and was found it to be a novel approach to quickly developing software.
This adage resonates with my belief in always trying to be singular in identifying and pursuing my endeavor, I have accorded equal attention to the journey towards the goals and the eventual destination. I believe it is vital to enjoy the journey just as much as it is imperative to focus on the destination.
I have always been interested and intrigued by computers, ever since using a BBC when I was very young. Since then I have become fluent in writing BASIC and more recently I have learnt HTML, the language of the World Wide Web on which I have my own wesite. I use computers for most of my exam coursework such as Solving Equations Using Numerical Methods for Pure Maths 2 and also for recreation.

The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems. Movement of goods, services and people to and from locations is made possible by transportation systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over-emphasized. Many countries face transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. A trip of about 30 minutes usually takes about an hour or more due to traffic jams. This is seriously impacting productivity and has become a topical issue in the country. The situation is the same in Uganda where I currently work. To this end, Transportation Engineers are needed to design roads/ highways that will stand the test of time, plan effective traffic management systems to reduce
