The Maryvale Family YMCA branch, purpose is to serve over 100,000 families, throughout 18 different communities by caring out their mission and values. Their mission statement involves putting Christian ethics into use through the programs offered, which builds a healthy spirit, mind and body. They feel that they have met their goal when a person makes a healthy choice based of their teachings, when a mentor motivates child, and when a community comes together for the benefit of the community. The Maryvale Family YMCA is persisted in incorporating the four core values into each of the programs. The four values are caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Similar to The Lookout Mountain Facility, the Mount View Youth Services Center is also operated by Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Youth Corrections. However, unlike the first facility, it offers detention services to both males and females. Mount View focuses on a behavior management program for their clients. Through positive reinforcement, goal setting, focusing on the youths’ strengths, and evidence-based programs they work to manage the behavior of their clients. This facility is unique in that it is houses the Front Range Assessment Unit. This assessment is applied to youth that have been admitted to Division of Youth Corrections. The median income household is around 27, 975 and 32.0 percent of people living in the area in poverty (U.S Census Bureau, 2015). Douglas Unified School District #27 (DUSD) currently serves 3,800 students from Kindergarten through twelfth grades. DUSD is composed of five elementary schools, two middle schools and one High School, which is Douglas High School (DHS). Approximately 1,400 students are enrolled in this year. Students are mostly Hispanics they received reduced or free lunch and some portion of the students are considered English (ELLs).

I went to a private college called Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Where I did my four years of Undergraduate for Religion with a minor in youth ministry. Going to Union College led me to want to know more about people and the school provided us opportunities to work at different summer camp, I decided to go to Glacier View Ranch in Ward, Colorado. The job requirements were for the counselor to take care of 8 girls from ages 7 to 18. A normal day consisted of taking them to their activities, having a blast and helping them understand that we need to respect and care for each other. Camp ReCreation was founded in 1978, with goal of giving adults and children the opportunity to participate in fun, social activities and an opportunity for spiritual growth. Since then the camp has continued to grow and in 2012 there were a total of 165 volunteers. The camp is a nonprofit organization, and is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and from charitable donations from the community. Recently, Camp ReCreation have left their roots from Catholic funded charities and the presidents have recently founded a new organization named RAD Camp, Inc. Family Resource Center, Inc. in Wytheville VA is the closest organization in my area that offers services to victims of domestic violence. Family Resource Center offers a variety of services for adults and children who have been affected by domestic violence. These include private counseling, support groups, community resource assistance, court and legal advocacy. They also provide emergency shelter in one of their multi-site safe houses. This organization also provides sexual assault services, stalking services, and a 24-hour hotline.
The summer after my first year, I participated in the Summer Service Learning Program through the Center for Social Concerns. In this position I inspired at-risk young adults transitioning out of foster care to establish the life skills necessary for independent living. Rosemont is committed to helping children in need; it is dedicated to healing and renewing youths with a history of trouble and abuse. Since Summer school classes were at the morning, so I was able to get a summer job at the afternoon. Luckily I was accepted by the Summer Youth Employment Program, and eventually I was enrolled by a non- profit organization called “Light And Love Home”. I was passionate and excited to serve my community, my occupation was teacher’s assistant, and my job was teaching third grade children. That was one the best experiences I have ever had, those kids were very cute, compassionate and intelligent. They were enrolled in a summer camp program, all the kids here were capable of solving complicate math questions, and decent reading skills. The organization provides many extracurricular activities such as computer class, gym, art and craft. These courses was beneficial for children, because they were able to discovered their specialty and hobbies through these activities. Many children experienced success and become more confident, most importantly these kids become true friends through these daily activities.
