Introduction: Personal Orientation to Career 1. I grew up in a family where work was an important aspect, but both of my parents did not always work. My father had many medical issues and was unable to walk for many years. Financial stability was always looked at as the ideal. I was taught working is just a part of life and you should do it to survive. Both of my parents did not attend college, but encouraged me to go to college. They were not happy when I wanted to also go to graduate school because they did not see the point of doing so. I was fortunate to have their help and support in my undergraduate degree because this allowed me to not have to work too much. I did have a lot of volunteer positions and ultimately got what I would call a real job in 2014 doing counseling like services in the community. This approach focused on how we deal with unexpected events or by chance events. When I was younger, I feel like I had all the qualities that were mentioned above, especially optimism for the future. I was curious and wanted to be a teacher and then a hairdresser. I was unsure of what my future would hold or what path I would be on, but I was willing to take risks. I always knew I would continue with my schooling I just was not sure what that would look like until my senior year of high school. I was always flexible, until I found my niche. For the longest time I could not decide on a major and a career to study throughout college. When I came to Georgia Southern University I discovered that they had a major that was very interesting to me. Sport Management id the ideal major for my interest and me. Since I love sports I figured that this would be the career for me. A degree in Sport Management helps to prepare for success in sport related occupations.
Establishing a theoretical counseling orientation is an important step in developing professional identity. Theories provide counselors with explanations of human nature, help with conceptualizing clients’ problems and deliver procedural guidance in predicting clients’ change. Contemporary counselor is expected to be integrative and eclectic, drawing inspiration from many approaches. It is also my hope to synthesize a variety of concepts and a diversity of strategies from different theories and integrate them into a coherent, comprehensive perspective.
I was hired quickly and kept my first job for a year. During that year, I worked quite often, which had affected my school work. I didn’t make time to study and went to bed late most nights. As much as I wanted to quit, I kept working. I wanted to quit, because I feared I couldn’t keep up with school anymore. It terrified me that I would fall so behind, and never get anywhere in life. I kept faith, and I worked hard to get where I am today. I never gave up. I did not like asking for money at home, because I knew everyone was already struggling. I felt like I needed my job, so that I could make money to pay for things myself. Without work, I wouldn’t have any lunch money for school. My grandparents helped as much as they could. It's not their job though, I felt that it wasn’t fair they had to keep spending their money on me. Working has taught me great skills. I was shy before my first job. I am now more outgoing and social; I love meeting new people. I still work to this very day, and I am working hard in school. With good time management, I’m able to keep up with
I have been very fortunate since the early beginning of my counseling journey to have a mentor. Because of that mentor relationship I feel that I have the benefit to find a counseling perspective that undoubtedly works more me. That counseling model is Solution Focused Therapy, which is a pragmatic approach that focuses on problem solution or management by the most efficient route. Brief counseling does not espouse the notion of ‘cure’ or have character change as one of its goals (Burwell & Chen, 2006, p. 191). The article I found in Counseling Psychology Quarterly, takes the basic aspects of the solution focused counseling model and equates them to how they are effective in matters of career treatment.
So with looking further into all of the different criminal justice paths I could go down and with my love for science I thought being a forensic scientist would be the perfect job. After I’m done with college, my successful will continue. Regardless my main goal is to just be happy, and never have to struggle for anything. But, when I think about my future the first thing I always think about is the car I want. Which is so odd because I should be thinking about a place to live, and a family maybe first, then a car. But no, I want my all white Cadillac CTS. Depending on what year I get enough money to purchase this perfect car, I’m going to want to the newest year. Just so I can have all the newest interior and the technology. I want to one day, have a family and a decent sized house in a big city. I haven’t really decided yet if I either want to go into the FBI or just work for the local police station wherever I decide to live.
In 2012 nearly 205,000 people were employed as a physical therapist in the United States. The average salary of a physical therapist in 2012 was $79,860 per year. The number of jobs is estimated to grow 36% from 2012-2022. This job of physical therapy involves many and very important tasks to fulfill the needs of their patients. It requires many different educational requirements and you must have strong people skills.
I know as I further my education in the counseling field my philosophy of counseling will change. For myself, I feel that I am still young and learning about myself and my surroundings. In my eyes to be suitable to help others I need to continue to grow as a person myself both professionally and mentally. I want to be able to move forward and develop new distinctions and aspects to my philosophy of counseling as time goes on. I hope to continue my growth in understanding of what it means to be a good therapist or counselor by using good theories and techniques to help future clients.
Life goes on as well as we moving on, in order to live a happy life, money, passion, happiness and the meaning of it are essential keys. Among thousands of jobs and over billions of people, having a career or achieving a job is not only important but also competitive. Therefore, deciding what you are going to become has always been the toughest decision in life. I am not talking about Mozart, who was born to play and compose music, or Cristiano Ronaldo who decided to pursue for his career as a football player at the age of 14. I am talking about me and my just-found-out-career in a couple hours earlier, Nursing.
Growing up I came from a family of two sisters and a brother. My parents worked hard to be sure that there was always a roof over our head, food on the table, and clothes on our back. My worked for various companies until he was able to obtain his degree as an electrical technician. Today he maintains his own business known as McGhee Electric. My mother also took on various jobs to make ends meet. She began work as a cosmetologist and slowly climbed her way to the top. After rigorous schooling and training, she is now Licensed Practical Nurse.
If I had to look back at the elementary school version of myself and someone mentioned the word nurse to me my first thought was that is a girl’s profession. While I was interested in medicine I never knew much about the careers in medicine. I have two older brothers, one become a computer analyst the other a computer programmer and my father was a mechanical engineer. In addition, nobody in my family had been involved in the medical field so I had no one to turn to gain knowledge about careers in medicine. Naturally I wanted to follow in my family’s footsteps so I decided I wanted a career in technology.
I never once in my life sat down with myself and really thought about what my parents had to go through and all the sacrifices they had to make in order to ensure that I have a better life and a brighter future. Thinking back now, the frustration I feel eats away at me constantly that I was not more thankful and did not do more to help. This is most definitely a lesson that is learned better late than never. Going forward now I have three main focuses for when I enter college, the first is undoubtedly God and my spiritual life, which forced me to have this revelation. The second focus has to be my family, which I appreciate and value more than ever now. The final focus I have, but certainly not the least, is to be successful in my endeavors throughout college. Seeing how much my parents cared for me by seeing them work as hard as they could just so my siblings and I could live a better life gives me all the motivation in the world to work as hard as I can to not only give back to them, but for my future children to live an even better life than I
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing.
