According to our records, our agency is going to find two houses to move Uncle Seng into, as his house isn't big enough, and another for Ra, bang Vantha and their children Savrng and Syla. Uncle Seng told us he will accommodate 20 years old Ry, 18 years old Than, 7 years old Map and 16 years old Athy until they are old enough to support themselves. Uncle Seng told us before their arrival, he expected us to find a bigger house for him to accommodate four more people in his household and a bigger car. Thankfully, coming into the meeting, Uncle Seng said he would have financial support for these four children after all they are his nieces and nephews and he is sponsoring their move. Poverty level is based on the family circumstances. There is a higher chance of poverty with the newly immigrant, and they live in this condition because they are still new to the county. Education also plays a big role in this, because the more educated a person is the more they are likely to make it and become successful quicker. I have to introduce you to three individuals, not random individuals, but siblings - two brothers and a sister. They may seem just like any other people, but they have a secret that isn’t easily realized unless you know them. They belong here in the sense that they were born here, but their hearts belong to another land. They are the children of immigrants; the first generation to be born in America. It is a unique experience that to others may seem odd or exotic, but for these three is just as normal as learning to ride a bike.

Immigrants must overcome many barriers to succeed in America. First, migrants frequently must learn a new language. Inability to communicate is a critical barrier for accessing the health care system (Urrutia-Rojas, Marshall, Trevino, Lurie, & Minguia-Bayona, 2006). Second, the processes of work and schooling for themselves and their families can be daunting. Lastly, immigrants use the established social network of longer duration residents for reference and knowledge (Nandi, Galea, Lopez, Nandi, Strongarone, & Ompad, 2008). For purposes of this report, there are three different types of immigrant: legal, undocumented, and refugees or persons seeking asylum. All three types of residents want to succeed and achieve their personal dream.
There are many oppressive factors that exist in contemporary Canadian society that disadvantages and often alienates refugees. These oppressive factors exist in social, religious, cultural, political, and economic spheres within society. There are many political barriers that exist that oppress and limit the amount of refugees that can safely flee to Canada. An example of political and social barriers that inhibit the admission of refugees is increased border security. Border security has reached a point where it is too difficult for some refugees to safely flee a harmful environment, and this violates international law which outlines that each state has to respect an individual’s right to seek refuge in any nation. This resettling process includes struggles of all types, but one of the greatest hardships of resettling refugees worldwide is making friends. For example, in the book Inside Out & Back Again by Thanhha Lai, Ha’s home country was taken over by a communistic government, so it was unrealistic for her to even dream of returning home. In her new school, in America, Ha was teased for the way she looked which made her journey of making friends even harder; all of her classmates had ignored her. Upon getting the assignment and the information I was really apprehensive and actually nervous about the guidelines for the assignment. At the same time I was very excited to do hands on work, this is a great way to learn and I do love working with families. I was very concerned with the group and time elements of the assignment. I knew that this would be challenging for anyone but knew that it would be especially challenging for me and my situation. I found that it was easiest for me to let my group know up front, as well as Eric’s mom Melanie, the time constraints we had and also to ask Melanie first what was most convenient for her. Within the profession of working with young children and their families, the first rule is to consider what times and places are the most convenient for them. Turnbull list this as one of the principles when creating partnerships with families, to be available and accessible, and sometimes this means rearranging other commitments, in order to show the family that you really are not only committed to them but respect their time as well(Turnbull, 2011, p.147).
Jordan has witnessed many waves of refugees since its inception in 1946, with some waves coming even before independence. Despite its very limited natural and financial resources, Jordan has hosted refugees from the Palestinian territories, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Somalia, and Sudan. The status of various ethnic groups that have settled in Jordan range from full integration into Jordanian society to no or very little integration. For example, Circassian and Chechens are full members of Jordanian society while Sudanese and Somali refugees are widely treated as outcasts. Therefore, it is imperative that NGOs focus their limited financial resources on those refugees who have very little integration in society and who are therefore more vulnerable. In addition, it is important these organizations are aware of the demographics of the refugee population in Jordan and what services are most needed.
