Silas and Godfrey, well known men in this book they end up reaping one thing and sowing something else did they deserve what happens to them? Silas had a happy life in Lantern yards a place he called home. The man had a fiancée and a prestigious position in the church in Lantern yards. A condition known for causing people to freeze for several hours named Cataleptic Seizures ruled Silas’s life. Not knowing that this happened to him periodically he would go into a soulless trance for hours on end and not even know what happened. Silas once had a fiancée named Sarah, who later down the road ends up marrying Silas’s best friend William Dane who framed him for stealing money from the church and getting silas ostracized from the community, driving him out of Lantern yards. William Dane married Sarah a month later. Silas Marner moved to a place called Raveloe where the village feels so well hidden Silas feels God himself cannot find him there. Living in Raveloe for fifth-teen years now Silas remained hidden in solitude. A series of events will cause a butterfly effect in Silas’s life and help him open up to the community, and spark life back in him that could cause him to trust, love, and be happy once again in his life. A feeling he hasn’t had since being back in lantern yard fifth-teen years ago. In the novel Silas Marner, the characters search for happiness. One character named Godfrey Cass makes his search disappointing when relying on wealth and luck, instead of love, and finds out this will not lead him to happiness. Another character, Silas Marner, looks first to a pile of gold that only consumes his life, until he starts loving and caring for a child, who finally brings him happiness. The child’s father was Godfrey but Godfrey did not own up to his child because it would have hurt his chances with Nancy. Sixteen years down the road Godfrey makes the discovery that Dustan died in the stone pits next to Silas’s house where he had drown with Master Marners money this causing Godfrey to telling Nancy that Eppie is actually his child after this they both went to silas to adopt Eppie and in the end Eppie tells them no and would rather stay with silas leading to Eppie getting married to Aaron Winthrop and revisiting silas old home in lantern yard where he didn’t recognize a single thing since he left thirty-one years ago. The lives of these characters show that wealth or material objects do not bring as much happiness as love.
Silas’ morality shines through again. Silas could have completely forgotten about his morals and taken all these opportunities to cause even more destruction and regret but instead he sacrificed so much of his hard work to be happy with himself and instead of trying to be accepted by society he wanted to be able to be accepting of himself without resenting anything. Silas’ self-sacrifice is the main cause to his true happiness. His morals also played a vital role in the novel causing him to realize he does not need material things in life to be happy.
She had to watch her father leave her mother, and “the gloomy atmosphere of their once happy home overclouded the morning of [her] life” (187). She had to watch her mother suffer from a heartache that eventually killed her, and was then given a lifelong babysitter. It then seemed that Edward attempted to buy the love of his daughter with the promise of financial stability. It seemed as though he tried to buy his way out of guilt by employing the best educators for his daughter. Despite his efforts, he formed an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and met death after falling from his horse on route to see Xarifa. Because of these ill-fortuned events, Xarifa found herself thrown into a relationship with a man that she might not have otherwise pursued. Similarly, the children of the world today find themselves suffering as a result of their relationship with their parents. How involved a parent is in a child’s life constantly affects the way the child behaves and the actions they take.
At the end Deanie ends or marrying a good man she met when she was in the psychiatric hospital. That 's exactly what she wanted but she wanted and thought it was going to be Bud, her lover of high school. Bud wanted a sweet girl to help him with his ranch and wanted and thought it would be Deanie. But, it ends up being someone else who he marries and has children with when Deanie was gone. They get what they wanted but it 's not with who they wanted to be
This allegory is a strong image of man’s relentless battle between good and evil. Mankind’s personal and social quarrels through different dealings can result in good consequences and/or bad consequences. There are many symbols throughout Young Goodman Brown that exemplify Puritan ideology relate to modern times, such as faith, the staff and the forest. Additionally, Nathanial Hawthorne’s ancestral tie to the Salem Witch Trial is a great example of how a man can be tainted by social influences. However, it is up to each person to choose their own path, guided by their perception of faith, no matter their religion. “Depending upon one another's hearts, ye had still hoped that virtue were not all a dream. Now are ye undeceived. Evil is the nature of mankind. (pgs. 325-337)”

The feelings they respectively have for each other are what drives the story, and are significant enough that the prosperity of entire town hinges upon them.
The relationship between Myrtle and her husband is insincere, loveless, and dead. Myrtles husband George, who is lifeless, poor, and often dirty, owns a garage in the valley of ashes. While George is completely devoted to his wife Myrtle, on the other hand myrtle has lost love for her husband, and desires for a more elegant fast pace life. Myrtle tries to find a way to fix the situation between her and her husband, but instead she takes the easy way out and cheats on her husband with Tom a very rich, prominent, and handsome man who gives her everything that she desires, but he is also a married man.
“Young Goodman Brown”, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, delves into the classic battle between good and evil; taking the protagonist, Goodman Brown, on a journey to test the resolve of his faith. Goodman ventures out on his expedition deep into the sinister forest, in order to repudiate the attempt of the devil to sway him from Christianity; a test he believes his devout faith is prepared to confront. Goodman Brown is forever altered in ways unforeseeable by taking a stroll with the ultimate antagonist, the devil himself. The prevailing theme in this literary work, which is common in Hawthorne’s gothic writing, is the realization that evil can infect people who seem perfectly respectable. Throughout the course of his journey, Goodman Brown discovers that even highly reputable people of Salem are vulnerable to the forces of darkness.
The two, both dealing with the loss of someone tremendously important and close to them, would be better off supporting each other, but instead they break away from their bond and deal with the pain alone. Since “[Henry] and Marty hadn’t talked much since the funeral,” (Ford 9), “it made the hole in Henry’s life that much larger,” (Ford 9). Not too many years after Ethel’s death, and after awkward and unfamiliar encounters between father and son, Marty introduces his father to Samantha, Marty’s fiancée. Henry is overjoyed that Marty wants to show him a part of his life, and the three start to uncover Henry’s past, bringing them all closer. The film chronicles the histories of three fathers, and manages to relates and link their events and situations. First is Mitchell Stephens and his relationship with his drug-addict daughter. Second is Sam, and the secret affair he is having with his young daughter Nicole. He is somewhat of a narcissistic character because of his preoccupation with himself and pleasing himself, and his lack of empathy throughout the film for the others in the town. Third is Billy, who loves his two children so much that he follows behind the school bus every day waving at them. Billy is also having an affair with a married woman who owns the town’s only motel. On the exterior the town is an average place with good people just living their lives. But, beneath all the small town simplicity is a web of lies and secrets, some which must be dealt with in the face of this tragedy.
Silas' background consisted of poverty, hardships, and hard work. He acquired his own wealth and that opened doors that were unknown to him or his family. The Colonel's background and attributes led him into an awkward situation of always attempting to appear in society as something that he is not. He is a common, vulgar man, doing his best to appear sophisticated, educated, and knowledgeable, when, in fact, it is only his wealth that connects him to the upper class. Similarly, the ending of ?Young Goodman Brown? offers a moral, but leaves the main character in a state of discord and callousness towards his wife, and his religion. The story is didactic, because the main character is punished for his transgressions. Symbolism, evident especially in Hawthorne?s allegory, and the repetition of Poe?s suspenseful tale serve to further the goals of each writer. Ultimately, Hawthorne?s Goodman Brown becomes isolated from humanity, an issue of the head and the heart, and Poe?s narrator withdraws inside himself, an issue purely of the mind. Recognizing this discord from the self and humanity is essential to understanding the behavior of these troublesome characters.

Rather than dealing with the mistake or misfortune as a parent should do and stand by their child’s side, both parents ran away and tried to hide from the problem. The feelings of each character were completely forgotten and lost. Each were treated as some sort of object that could be thrown away and replaced. And ultimately, the outcomes in their lives reflected their poor parenting. The choices they made unfortunately came from the lack of skills they were taught when they were young and impressionable. Neither character knows what it is like to be a part of a loving family because they were both used as objects for money or fame. Sadly, the lack of parenting led to the demise of each and we are reminded, from over a hundred years ago as well as today, that successful parenting today will lead to successful adults for the future.
...s against his will and marries Amelia, he disinherits him. A very distressing event is when John Osborne takes out the family Bible and erases George´s name from the fly leaf. He has no feelings for his off-spring, and places money concerns above sentiments. He shows no mercy for his son or for Amelia, whom he disdains. He does not give a thought to her or what she suffers when widowed, and he offers to take care of her son without realizing how painful it is for Amelia to part from the boy. John Osborne is never reconciled to his son before he dies. But in his will he expresses at last that George is his beloved son, and he leaves some money for Amelia. His way of life has been in line with his fellow creatures in Vanity Fair, and his kindest deeds are sadly left to the last moment.
Two of the main characters, Jack and Algernon, strive to be "Ernest" and "Earnest" in the play, yet they both deceive others to escape lives which they grow tired of. They both hope to marry the girls that they love, yet they are starting the relationship based on false pretence and lies. It is ironic that they both call themselves "Ernest," a name that suggests honesty and sincerity, yet they both create stories to escape something or the other. Jack creates a brother called "Ernest" in the city that he uses as a scape goat' to leave his prim and proper, respectable country life, whereas Algernon creates a friend by the name of "Bunbury" to escape his aunt's high class society parties. He shows his lack of interest in such social events when he tells Jack.
