As I approached the second semester of my freshman year at Meredith College, I was actually quite hesitant regarding the fact that I was enrolled in my first college English class. All while I was growing up, I have always possessed a love for reading and writing. English soon became my favorite subject, and I absolutely loved expressing myself through my assignments and papers. However, as I became older, my love for the subject of English slowly deteriorated, as my previous English teachers drove my passion down. Naturally, I had no idea what to expect walking into my English 111 class, but after completing the class, I am so elated to say that my passion for writing has increased dramatically. To be quite honest, I would write most of my papers the night before they were due, and I would still be able to pull out an A or a B on the assignment. Personally, I have always thought that any pre-writing techniques were never beneficial to the way in which I write a paper, but now I have come to the realization that planning out my papers in advance is extremely crucial for being successful in a real college level class. With this being said, planning out my writing assignments has provided me with the skills I needed to produce a better focus and overall organization throughout my papers. These two concepts have been repeatedly commented on my papers, and I am proud to say that I now have a more advanced understanding of how to master these writing features. Regarding focus, I am able to construct a well thought out thesis for any assignment, and I am also able to incorporate evidence that supports my thesis throughout the entirety of my papers. Furthermore, I have mastered the writing feature of organization, and I am able to relate my ideas back to my thesis in a strategic and orderly fashion. I am also able to construct topic sentences and transitions throughout all of my paragraphs, which greatly contributes to the overall development of my
