My mother, Stacy Schmidt, is a strong, beautiful and intelligent woman, whom I admire and aspire to be like one day. Growing up, she moved to many different places, in and out of the United States because her father was in the Air Force. Because of this, she had to make many new friends and adapt quickly. When she graduated from high school, her family was living in Colorado so she decided to stay at home and attend Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Schmidt was eager to start college which led her to begin a college class the day after graduation! Besides, the negative part of college was so small and minor that what she remembers most are the great times. When asked what she remembered most, Schmidt said, “Friends. You form long lasting friendships and get really close.” She has met up with her friends from college on several occasions and is still on a texting basis with most of them. “The hard part is that they don’t all live close. I would spend much more time with them if they lived by me.” Her friends helped her learn that you should have fun in college and not just focus on the studying part. You are in college for many years, make the best of it and have a great time. Friends are definitely needed throughout college, who else would stay up late studying with you or be your party buddy? Speaking of parties, Schmidt went to many parties during her first few years of college. However, it did not have the huge negative impact that you normally see in movies. Schmidt actually met her now husband, Eric Schmidt, at one of these parties! Having friends, and later a husband, helped her to come of age because they forced her to be exposed to new situations, like marriage, that she had never been in
