Have you ever thought of what it would be like if you were in a war? What it would be like to be hurt both physically, and emotionally. Well sadly this is what the war does to people. It severely damages them physically, and emotionally. If you died, your friends and family would be devastated but what you probably don’t understand is that if you had died in World War 1, your death would have been one in 12 million. This gives you an idea of the numbers of the dead. It also gives an insight into the devastation and sorrow that had befallen the families of the deceased. We all know that war should stop. War has to stop. War must stop.
War affects many people. It kills many people. People who fight in war all have one goal and that is to win. To survive. The human cost of war was extremely damaging and during World War 1, 12 million people died, and 20 million were severely wounded. The people of Europe imagined themselves “as survivors, perched on a mountain of corpses”. The total cost of World War 1 across the globe is estimated at $197 billion. During and after World War 1 there was ongoing hatred, bitterness, and anger between the Triple Entente (England, France, and Russia) and the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy). My grandma was a survivor of The Blitz in London, in 1940. She remembers this very clearly and she still holds a great amount of anger against the Germans who delivered this destruction to London. This shows how long people affected by War can hold a grudge against their enemy. This anger and hatred can become a part of everyday life as we can see in Israel and Palestine, where generation after generation maintain the hate and the bloodshed

These words were captured in The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key and since 1913, the United States has adopted The Star-Spangled Banner as its national anthem. We have used the Red, White, and Blue as one of our nation’s symbols. It has fifty stars, to represent the number of states we have in our Union. The military pledges its allegiance to the flag and the country which it represents at all costs. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave, and we are proud to show it.
In the novel, My Brother Sam is Dead, by James and Christopher Collier, they teach that there are many other ways to solve conflict besides war. War is violent, disgusting, and gruesome and so many people die in war. Families separate in war because of how many people want to be in the thrill of the war and also how many innocent family members die in the midst of war. Lastly, war is worthless and it was caused by a disagreement over something little and the outcome of war is not worth the many lives, time, and money and there are other ways to solve conflict besides to fight. War causes so many negative outcomes on this world that it needs to be avoided at all costs.
As time passes, people move on, memories fade, anger and fear often subside. This could be one reason why the information reported on any war becomes sanitized over time. It’s not that the information reported is inaccurate, but the connection to the wartime era being reported diminishes as time elapses and the number of survivors declines. Even if we cannot personally feel their emotions, survivors can still bestow important facts about their personal involvement that historical accounts do not always provide. But unfortunately, not many survivors are still alive from the World Wars.
During WW1, the Americans had influenced the war by propaganda. Propaganda is when you spread rumors to influence society. Propaganda was used to affect Germany, Great Britain, and the United States. In Germany propaganda was used to give the soldiers morals and people with false information that was sent by balloons or planes. In America propaganda was used to persuade other Americans to join the war against Germany. In Great Britain, propaganda was meant to convince men into joining the war and for people to save food for the war effort.
World War I was a very deadly war with over 100 million human casualties(deaths plus injured). Therefore war is a very transformative event for humanity, because it always affects individuals, societies, and even the world in a pessimistic way.

The First World War of 1914-1918, also known as the Great War, was the first total war in history. What began as a European struggle over the balance of power between the triple alliance of France, Britain and Russia on one side and the central powers of Germany and Austria-Hungary on the other, soon became a global conflict that involved the imperial powers of Europe, their colonies and lands such as the Ottoman Empire, Japan and the United States. Although the sheer number of countries involved in the conflict is enough to describe the First World War as a mass war, what makes it total is the fact that it was waged not only against the enemy’s armies, but also against the civilian population. Military attacks, the use of propaganda and the fact that governments had to mobilise every available human and material resource for the conduct of war affected non-combatants and made World War One a war not fought between armies, but entire societies.

The soldiers who survived experienced severe trauma and mental discomfort. This trauma was a direct result of the violence and agony they experienced during the war. In July of 1945 a group of scientists created a petition with hopes of stopping the President of the United States from executing the use an Atomic bomb on Japan to force their surrender in World War II. Although the petition was not successful at stopping the President from launching the bomb, it was successful in its delivery and the pure sensibility it was requesting. The petition to stop the atomic bomb was an outcry for peace and mercy upon the Japanese, for not only their future but the future of America.
