THE STARTING PAPER A numerous amount of events throughout the world led to the start of World War 2. In many ways, World War 2 was a result of turmoil leftover by World War 1. Below are the main causes of World War 2. The Treaty of Versailles stopped World War I between Germany and the Allied Powers. Because Germany had been conquered, the treaty was very severe for Germany. Germany was forced to "accept the responsibility" of the war amends suffered by the Allies. The treaty forced Germany to pay a large sum of money called reparations. The issue with the treaty is that it left the German economy in ruins. People were starving and the government was in chaos. In the period before World War II, Japan was flourishing. However, as an island nation they did not have the land or the natural resources to preserve their growth. Japan began to look to grow their empire in order to boost new resources. They invaded Manchuria in 1931 and China in 1937. With the economic violence left behind by World War 1, some countries were taken over by dictators who created mighty fascist governments. The first fascist government was Spain which was controlled by the dictator Franco. Then Mussolini ruled Italy. These dictators wanted to broaden their empires and began to seek new lands to conquer.
