A freelancer is someone who works for themselves and are not committed to one long term employer. Areas of freelance work include music, journalism, film-making, photography, illustration and event management. Working for yourself is often reputed to offer a wealth of benefits to the individual, as it allows you to create a work life based on your personal skills, talents and intrigues. Freelancers can work on a variety of projects with exposure to many different variants of people, and the work often offers the flexibility of location and schedule. In the arts and media industries, it gives a greater level of creative freedom to work on projects of your own design than a conventional job would sanction. However, to what extent are these things true, and do they work for everyone?
To answer this question, I interviewed a range of people in varying areas of freelance work. Momoko Hill (see appendix 1) has been a marketing representative, event manager and currently works as the manager of several music artists. She expressed that she works freelance because; ‘for me, the number one reason to work freelance is the freedom. I’ve heard a lot of people say that the best thing is being able to get up and work from home in your pyjamas, and it’s true. There is a lot more freedom than a desk job offers you. I particularly love the creative freedom, to make your own decision and learn for yourself.’ She also noted the advantages of not having a boss; ‘the freedom it gives you really is such an advantage. You’re not always bound to a desk or a 9-to-5 schedule. You can do different projects and pick what you want to do. I prefer to manage things for myself and make my own decisions, rather than having someone dictate things for me.’ Freel...

...abilities from the company that you work for. Working on a film set would give you good knowledge of how a production team works and what kinds of people and equipment are needed. This is knowledge that is hard to gain without hands on, practical experience, and allows for greater levels of creativity.
In conclusion, through my research I found that freelancers and employees face very similar difficulties and advantages. Both are facing instability in the light of the current economic climate, and involve a lot of hard work and networking. Both offer you skills and creativity, though in various ways and to different degrees. This project has broadened my understanding of freelance work and also opened my eyes to it, as I initially thought that …… In fact, it could in many ways be to considered to bring a far greater amount of control and creativity to your work.
As we can see from these data, the growth of telecommuting has been substantial over the last several years. It is becoming more and more attractive to both employees and employers. We will further explore why in the upcoming sections.
The cognitive process of creativity has become nearly an essential skill in everyone’s life within last decade. We may argue whether the creative thinking has been in the center of development throughout history but for some reason, our society publicly craves for it more than ever before. Ken Robinson’s TED Talk “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” (Robinson, 2006) has more than 13 million viewers. Tony Blair claimed in 1999 that “the 21st Century will be dominated by the exploitation of creative minds”(Fletcher, 1999). There are many players on the field of creativity, starting with its individual advocates, such as “creativity experts”, companies who stand upon ideas, universities, especially graduate business schools, who have started to “teach” creativity and governments who have come up with escalating amount of initiatives to support this cause. In this paper, the question, why has creativity become in the center of the economic debate recently, will be seek for answer. As it has been a global process, I will focus on the European case and try to frame the developments on that conti-nent.
In this article, researchers look at the assessment of creativity in job candidates. Creativity is essential for businesses to succeed. According to Amabile, Conti, Coon, Lazenby and Herron, (1996), consumer demands for innovation, reduction in product life cycles and fierce competition in the marketplace require job candidates to possess attributes of creativity. Amabile et al. (1996) defines creativity as “novel and useful ideas in any domain” (p. 1155). Examples of creativity are demonstrated by an individual’s ability to handle conflict resolution and utilize problem-solving skills. Furthermore, a creative individual is capable of being self-managed. Experience in working and leading teams is also considered characteristic of creativity (Malakate, Andriopoulos, & Gotsi, 2007).
Outsourcing has been around for many years. In this paper I will discuss some of the history of outsourcing, the goods things about outsourcing, and the bad things about outsourcing.
...he range of options that one can have. Instead of looking for jobs in other enterprises, one should consider self employment. One can never lack something constructive and financially profitable if he or she looks hard enough. Savings may also help during rainy days.
"One, two, three, say 'cheese'!" This is something very commonly heard in photography studios all over the world today. For a long time, I have wanted to be a photographer. I have watched different people who do my dream job. I watch their techniques, see how they are able to take the "magic" shots, and so much more. One thing is special about these several photographers. They are all freelance photographers. Besides the already tight budget of a photographer, they never know when the next job is going to appear. Despite the uncertainties of this kind of job, this is what I want to do after graduation. Because freelancers don't know when they're next job is going to show up, one of my biggest worries is how I am going to support myself with this business. We don't do freelancing for the love of money, but in contrast, for the love of the job. "Light has no words , but a photo done well can capture the light and you can stare at it and create a visual worship of the Father of Lights [God]" (Hoffman).
Telecommuting may be the movement of the future, which will allow more people to work away from the office. Many people see telecommuting as a way to be close to home or allow them to be connected to their organization while working abroad. While telecommuting might work for some people, telecommuting is not for everyone. There are many disadvantages; as well advantages to telecommuting which most people do not take into account. When considering telecommuting, the advantages fall for both employer and employee. The same can be said about the disadvantages of telecommuting.
The workplace today goes beyond just the walls and ceilings that surround an office environment or office building. According to the International Telework Association and Council, 44.4 million Americans worked from home at least part of the time in 2004, up 7.5% from just on year earlier (Earthweb, 2005). Though it may be very convenient to work from home, the choice can bring its own set of problems. There are financial reasons, efficiencies, and even managing time are just a few to name that bring about many challenges and issues that any remote employee would face in that type of work environment.
Nothing is business stays the same, some days are good, some days are bad, and some unexpectedly profitable. The good days are all about challenge, your own time, the opportunity to create an ideal work environment, making your work fit your life, and no boss. The challenge could be anything from working with your client to being interviewed about your business for an article in the local newspaper. There's always something new and challenging.
Sweet benefit of freelancer’s routine: you can dress in rags, your desk can look as if a stampede ran over it, and you can work while sitting on a bathroom throne and enjoying (not really) a serious case of diarrhea – no one will care.
Recent studies show that a major concern raised by employees is their work life balance. Telecommuting may not work for all types of busin...
“Freedom is having autonomy over one’s daily work” (Williams, 2017, p. 140). It allows for workers to have a sense of belonging and to make decisions that affect their work daily. For example, at Atlas, we operate on schedules with in departments to accomplish work most efficiently throughout the day. However, workers are not assigned to specific job function, they asses the priorities in each area and make the decision to work where they are going to be most productive. At times, redirection is required and we use it as a training opportunity. We do everything we can to avoid micromanaging our staff as we cannot afford for someone to not to be part of the work
In the United States, approximately one in eight adults are self-employed. In their minds exists a one common dream. This is the entrepreneurial dream of self-employment. It is the freedom to start, grow, and cash in a new business. Most of the extravagant millionaires of today build up their wealth in this way. An entrepreneur is someone who has the ability to build and develop his own business. In today's fast paced world of business, many people chose to work for themselves. A career as an entrepreneur is a risky, yet personally rewarding endeavor.
The main purpose for a film editor is to just edit videos, which is self-explanatory, mostly for themselves or for a big company. They also have to get their own equipment which is time and money consuming. They also need to be good with computers and very patient. They have to be patient because some jobs are very long. The longer jobs are movies, long videos,...
Secondly, as with actors bringing characters to life, a movie needs a dominant director to bring it to life. Generally, the role of the director is to set or put in the scenes of the film. In order to make the film distinguished, a powerful director is able to combine skillfully the elements or features that make up a scene.
