Word of mouse is an outstanding book that seems to have taken place in America. It doesn’t exactly say the setting, but you could tell by the details. Details such as the food, the language the characters speak, and also the way they speak. In this story, there are many secondary characters. One secondary character is Mikayla, a female, brown mouse. Isaiah first found Mikayla singing a beautiful melody. She took him to the Brophy household after she heard he lost his family. Isaiah learned that female mice weren’t supposed to sing so, in return for his stay, Isaiah helped Mikayla find the courage to show that she is different. She would get bullied because of how she looked. The main character in Word of Mouse is Isaiah. Isaiah is a bright blue mouse who was raised in a laboratory. He has ninety-six siblings but lost all of them during an escape. It was his big brother Benji’s idea to once and for all get out of the so-called, “Horrible Place”. Although, it all went downhill. All of his brothers and sisters had been recaptured except for Isaiah. Isaiah is a timid mouse and was full of sorrow once he realized he was alone. He wandered into the suburbs where he found other characters. One of them is Lucifer, a male, black sphynx cat. This breed of cat doesn’t have any fur. Lucifer is owned by the Brophy family and has attempted to attack Isaiah multiple times. Another secondary character is Mr. Brophy. Mr. Brophy works for Dr. Ledbetter, who captured Isaiah’s siblings. One day, Isaiah devised a plan to free his family that involved using Mr. Brophy’s truck. As he headed off to work, Isaiah and Mikayla’s family hopped on and used his car to get to Dr. Ledbetter’s lab. Thanks to Hailey, he and Dr. Ledbetter both got caught by officials from the ASPCA and Isaiah got his family …show more content…

To the average reader, “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck may initially look very similar, but after carefully critiquing and comparing their abundance of differences, their opinion will change. Steinbeck found his inspiration for writing the novel after reading that poem. His novel is set in Salinas, CA during the 1900s and is about migrant farm wrokers while the poem is about the guilt felt by one man after he inadvertently ruins the “home” of a field mouse with his plow. Even though they are two different genres of literature, they share a similar intent. The poem is written in first person, while the novel is written in third person omniscient. The vocabulary used to provide imagery is also another subtle different. Being two different genres of literature, they are destined to have both differences and similarities, but the amount of differences outweighs the aspects that are the same.

The poem To a Mouse is about a man who while plowing his field, comes across a mouse that he has accidentally slain. The mouse was in a little home that it has built to stay warm for the upcoming winter. Similarly, the man was plowing his field getting ready for the winter months. After all, both the mouse and the man were both doing their normal duties as mouse and farmer. However, the man, when he comes across the dead mouse is very shaken and upset that this event has occurred. In the same way, in the book Of Mice and Men when George must kill Lennie, George is similarly shaken and upset that this event had to have occurred. Both events were unplanned and not called for. Therefore, the title of this book is appropriate for the characters and events because life is never the way one plans it and things will happen that are uncalled for and unplanned.

Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck. It is set in California during the great depression. The story follows two ranch hands who travel together and are very poor. Throughout the novel we witness many different philosophical references. Many different types of characters from this novel are reused in today’s society. Steinbeck also writes eloquently about the many different emotions, aspirations, and dreams of man.
