There are skills that everybody should know: how to drive a car and how to change the oil in your car. Outdoors skills in general are a necessity. People are spending less and less time outside. We need to teach the necessary skills to survive in the outdoors. Wilderness survival skills should be taught in schools because it's fun, it's a dying art, and the unexpected comes at the least expected time.
Practicing wilderness survival is fun. In order for the outdoors to be fun, you love it instantly or you have to learn to love it. I have always loved the outdoors. Who would not like to go to the mountains and see something new? Camping and hiking may not be for everybody, but the skills are necessary for survival.
Wilderness survival is a dying art. Out of my friends, a few others and I are the only ones that know how to survive. Back in the day, wilderness survival was an everyday struggle. If you knew it, you lived to worry about tomorrow. If your didn’t know it, you didn’t half to worry about tomorrow. The unexpected is what gets us into a pinch. In the worst times, you and be either a survivor or a casualty. If would rather become a survivor than a casualty that requires the service of emergency services. The difference is in the skills you have acquired that will save your life. Wilderness survival skills aren’t just for the wilderness, but you will find that they fit into every emergency situation. Wilderness survival skills are fun, a dying art, and life saving. They need to be taught in schools. Once you learn how to survive, they are lessons well learned. Take it seriously, but have fun learning.
