Who is Considered a Terrorist and Why Muslims Have it so Bad “We should not look at terrorism from the nameplates - which group they belong to, what is their geographical location, who are the victims. These individual groups or names will keep changing. Today you are looking at the Taliban or ISIS; tomorrow you might be looking at another name” (Narendra Modi). People are very judgemental and assume certain people are terrorists because of actions that have taken place in our history, a person's race, a person's religion, and a reason as to why a certain group is fighting. Also, the government has had a big role in shaping all of these things and leading people to believe that these are true. The government is too quick to define who is a terrorist and who is not. Muslim people have a really hard time with this issue. “The Muslim immigrant community (here after referred to as Muslim immigrants, Muslims, and Muslim students interchangeably) in the United States is a population that experiences misunderstanding based on what they look like, how they dress, where they come from, and confusion about their religion” (Tindongan). Muslims are misrepresented in the United States, they are looked at strictly based on their color and background. Many people think Muslims bring terror, but not all Muslims are bad. Muslims identities have changed greatly because of the attacks in New York (9/11), Washington and Pennsylvania. These attacks are what make people fear Muslims and why they are identified as terrorists. According to Pew Research center (2007), 53% of Muslim Americans say it is harder to be a Muslim living in the United States since 9/11 (Muslim 3). This just shows how harsh people are, and how judgemental American people can be. “Since the attacks, people who look like Arabs or Muslims have been harassed, assaulted, and killed”
