In a study conducted August 2010 by bernews.com, up to 41% of 20,000 participants believed that the Bermuda Triangle was a real danger. The subject of countless movies, stories, and tales, the Bermuda Triangle fascinates the world. Is there really a ‘mystery’ behind it, or is it just plain accidental circumstance? Although the Bermuda Triangle ‘mysteries’ are simply fascinating, it does nothing to prove that these conspiracy theories are true. The Bermuda Triangle is a hoax because it is the most traveled area in the world, a place where magnetic …show more content…

This region, spanning anywhere from 500,000 to 1,000,000 square miles is “Used extensively by numerous cruise lines and airlines connecting The USA, Europe, Caribbean islands, Bermuda, South America and even Africa” (Bhattacharya). This is because the triangle is located right next to America, a wealthy part of the world, and near the equator. After the phrase ‘The Bermuda Triangle’ was first coined by Vincent Gaddis in 1964, the area became a key destination point for tourists, avid researches, and thrill-seekers. Because of the high amounts of travel, there will obviously be more accidents that occur, whether by coincidence or natural cause. There is also amazingly unpredictable weather in the Caribbean-Atlantic, such as sudden thunderstorms and strong winds. The Bermuda Triangle also sits atop some of the most deep trenches in the world, extending downwards to over 19,000 feet, and combined with the swift current can create some of the most dangerous traveling paths in the world. According to Dave Feit, chief of the marine forecast branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Marine Prediction Center, "If you have the right atmospheric conditions, you could get quite unexpectedly high waves, [and] if wave heights are eight feet outside of the Gulf Stream, they could be two or even three times higher within it” (nationalgeographic.com). With the weather and geographic location of the Bermuda Triangle, comes natural human error. Not being qualified or experienced creates most of the deaths that occur in the Bermuda Triangle, due to tourists and thrill seekers. These people often try to sail or fly in the Bermuda Triangle without proper equipment, such as tiny wooden pleasure boats and insufficient plane engines, which are not good enough to tackle the strong winds and high waves in the triangle.
