Is college tuition too high? Yes. Average cost for tuition in the United states ranges from $9,410 to $32,405 maybe more or maybe less depending on what college you go to. College tuition is too high compared to other levels of school. Tuition is too high for people who are not born with a silver spoon in their mouth (rich). Also tuition is too high for anybody living in the united states trying to make a living.
In the United states all the way till you go to college getting your education is free. Kids/students in elementary, middle, and high school can go for free. Some schools might even help you with food, (helping with) living, transportation with free of charge. After graduating from high school most student going to college will have to take out a loan or two. College tuition does not even include book, which can add $10-$700 maybe more onto your total amount of tuition at the end. Living on campus is eve more expensive having to pay for room and board (food and housing) which is not cheap either. Kids/students go from paying nothing for school to having to pay $9,000+ for a school they have not even started yet.

Only rich people have money to pay for tuition out of their own pockets and even then it would most likely be the students parents paying for them to go to school. Other social class most likely does not have parents to pay for their college tuition. This can cause parents and students to stress because they want their education just might not have enough money to pay for it which leads them at 18 years old to go into debt for

In-state college tuition should be free for all students meeting admission requirements, allowing students from the full spectrum of economic backgrounds to have the same opportunity to receive the same education. There is no doubt that college is expensive, price tags for some universities go over a quarter of a million for just a bachelors degree! (That’s if you graduate in four too). The extravagant price for college is no doubt crazy. Trying to better yourself and your future shouldn’t cost $250,000 plus. If public universities were to be free a plethora of problems could be solved instantly. According to Forbes the National student loan debt has surpassed 1.2 trillion dollars (Denhart )! This number is growing exponentially as more students enroll in to college. Why question then whether college should be free? Well, this number is the total amount of student loan debt from all students that have exited college. Some of these students are freshly graduated while some are aged with the wisdom trying to pay their loans back. If public universities were to be free and funded by our federal government, our government would pay this amount within ten years. Relatively a short amount of time considering that the student loan debt is an accumulation debt from students that have graduated more than ten year ago, also this also greatly increase with the following years as well.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, college tuition and relevant fees have increased by 893 percent (“College costs and the CPI”). 893 percent is a very daunting percentage considering that it has surpassed the rise in the costs of Medicare, food, and housing. As America is trying to pull out of a recession, many students are looking for higher education so they can attain a gratified job. However, their vision is being stained by the dreadful rise in college costs. College tuition is rising beyond inflation. Such an immense rise in tuition has many serious implications for students; for example, fewer students are attending private colleges, fewer students are staying enrolled in college, and fewer students are working in the fields in which they majored in.
Steve Cohen shows the disparity between the rising cost of college and a family’s capability to afford it. Cohen explains “Tuition has risen almost 1,200 percent in the last 35 years, and the sticker price for many four-year private colleges and out-of-state public universities exceeds $250,000.” Moreover, he goes on to say that even at public universities, it is about $80,000 for four years for tuition and other college related expenses. Today, more jobs require more than a high school diploma. In order to get a good paying job, a college degree is required. More people are attending college in order to get better paying jobs, but is going to college worth a good job with rising tuitions across the nation? College tuition is very expensive and many people are unable to attend due to the overall cost of tuition, books, room and board. One of my friends who went to college 25 years ago still has huge loans from college, hanging over his head. Many college students who experienced the same misfortune as my friend think American college education is too expensive. According to the college board, the tuition and fees for the 2016-2017 school year was $9650 for the state-residents and $24,930 for out-of-state-residents at a public college. The best solution for the problem is to promote tuition free college, meaning the government would pay college to offer free education. Tuition free college will benefit Americans’ life,the economy, and health, as it already has benefited many other countries.
Education in today’s society has become an necessity, students are more focused on their academic to get better grades. Costs in tuition, as we have seen reflected in our lives (and in our pockets) have increased on a steep scale since the 80s, this phenomenon can be described using this quote, “[…] the average student in 1979 could work 182 hours (a part-time summer job) to pay for a year's tuition. In 2013, it took 991 hours (a full-time job for half the year) to accomplish the same.” Some of the factors that have attributed to this can be summed up as it follows: Maintenance, New Faculties, Technological Improvements, Inflation, Remedial Courses, Boarding, Financial Aid, Loans, Availability of Classes, as well as many other factors.
