There have been many opportunities in highschool for me to not only gain community service hours, but more happiness in life. Helping others helped me too. I have done many things in support of the school providing the service. I have worked kids camps and helped children learn about the sports I love. I have coached first and second graders in basketball and helped them develop their skills. Since I am very involved in sports in highschool, I have needed to work the booster club booth at the fair for many summers. By doing these things I help my coaches and the children of my community. It feels good to help children learn learn to love the sport I love. My coaches do so much for me and my teammates, it feels good to be able to help them in anyway I can.

Andrews Parish School. My parents putting me in there is one of my biggest blessings in life. I learned so much about my faith and grew so close to God. With being a member of that church I have helped it in efforts to give back what they gave to me. They gave me hope, life, and love. I volunteered to help at the school's annual clothing sale. I sorted clothes, toys, and helped people find what they needed. From this experience I learned to help others in anyway I could. While being a member of this church I wanted to continue my faith as a Catholic so I took a confirmation class, to eventually make a decision to be confirmed and continue my faith. With this class it gave me many opportunities to pursue my love of God through others. We went to the nursing home and played bingo and sang to the elderly residents. They appeared so lonely there and it was nice to bring some joy to their life. My all time favorite experience
My senior year of high school alone, I completed over 160 hours of community service. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker, unfortunately does not allow for much spare time, but whenever I do have a chance, I always volunteer through my youth group in church. One of my biggest goals in life is being able to give back to the community on a much bigger scale. Ultimately, I hope to even go full circle and give scholarships to Hispanic student like me.
faith, I took every opportunity to attend church events and gatherings to speak with other
The activities that I have been involved with that has impacted me as a person today is my 2013 competition cheer team bible study. It was my freshman year on a varsity team and we had many setbacks throughout the season. People were getting hurt one after the other and we had to figure out a solution in order to win the state championship. This was all very frustrating and we just had to believe that God had a plan for us. We started a bible study with my coach, Barry every Friday before school. We would talk about our problems we faced that week/how we could overcome them. This bible study has changed my life completely and it continued to be every Friday of my next four years in high school. In this bible study I have learned what kind
During my 2 years as a member of The National Honor Society, I have done multiple community services. The best part of doing services is watching others smile because of what I have done to help them better their lives. When I was part of Earth Day at my school, I traveled to the historical paterson great falls. To interact with children on how to reuse our resources to help our community become cleaner. The best part of doing this is that a week after our service, the children were beginning to take small steps by picking up trash off the parks.
Being in a school that brought students from various counties and cities with different backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives, opened my eyes to seeing just how diverse humanity is. In a time when everyone is struggling with personal problems, I know how monumental a simple volunteer act can be. One of my favorite acts of service is tutoring. I tutored an elementary-aged girl for two years in Fort Lee and I will always remember those two years as the most fulfilling. Education is so precious, and children are the most open to it.
I have made friends with the elderly and sick children, these groups alone helped influence my future career, and without community service I wouldn’t have this
Last summer I got the opportunity for me and the entire cheer team to get community service hours from helping with the snow cone stand. I took the initiative and made a schedule for the cheerleaders to know what nights they were needed at the carnival. I enjoy helping with the carnival, mostly because my whole family does and the people in the fire department have became family. When I turn 18, I will become a volunteer fire fighter at Hebron, which will allow me to give back to my community. Not only did my Auto Tech class help me get a job, I also was able to compete in the SkillsUSA competitions.
My entire family is Catholic, and our religion is such an important factor in how we live our lives. When going to Saint Michael’s, I had the chance to go to Church every Wednesday with the rest of my school and practice my faith on campus. Our entire school would come together to celebrate the liturgy and participate in fundraisers that would assist local and global foundations. In addition, during middle school, I joined a group on school campus called Mercy Corps.
During my freshman year, with my confirmation class at church we had many service opportunities available to us; one which I particularly took part in was our semi-annual church blood drive. During the drive, I signed participants in and helped direct people prior to and after giving blood. Some other various events I volunteered at was our monthly pancake breakfast, the parish Christmas party, and I also went to Feed My Starving Children with my church group to help fill boxes.
There is something about helping other people, or the community in general, that I love. I did well above the amount of community service needed to apply for the National Honor Society, and I did it all because I like to do it. I have been doing community service since I was about eight or nine years old, and even then I was doing it because I wanted to do it. I started doing community service through the girl scouts, and after that I started doing it on my own. I have volunteered to do stuff such as helping at; cub scout day camps, park cleanups, river cleanups, community days and much more. I know that as long as I have the time to do it, I will continue to actively volunteer for the
Ever since I read Tulane’s motto, "Non sibi, sed suis," translated as "not for one 's self, but for one 's own.", I knew right away that Tulane was the place for me as this motto encapsulates the very principle upon which I have long-since resolved to live my life. From my first fundraiser at the age of seven, during which I raised $1,000 through grassroots fundraising, to being an active part in helping put an end to food insecurity in my own community, to co-founding my nonprofit, Kindling Hope, community service has always been a very important part of my life.
Being involved in many community organizations, I have assisted people from all walks of life.. For example, one week I volunteered at a senior bingo night at a retirement home facility, and the next week, I wrote letters to our troops. The National Honor Society has also given me the opportunity to give back to my own school. Last year, our organization did a gardening project in my school's courtyard revitalizing the landscape
At first, this course made me explore my faith in more details and understand the expectations that my faith/church has of me to fulfill. I was taught that the most important things in life are for free and that we should live our lives in service, and in sharing our talents and gifts with others. I came to the realization that I was able to live my faith by doing small actions filled with love and compassion. Mother Teresa says it best "Every Time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. "
I also had the privilege of helping with the Meals on Wheels non profit organization. My grandfather used to be a Meals on Wheels recipient and he would share with me how he enjoyed looking forward to their company and a hot meal daily. I volunteered because I wanted to give back and help someone else’s loved one in the same way. It was very rewarding delivering hot meals to people who didn’t have the means of getting one as well as being there for them to talk to. Overall, it was a very humbling experience, it made me realize just how blessed I am and how much I take for granted daily.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
