Why I Chose To Enter The Medical Field

Every person faces their own personal struggles but what if someone could make a difference in their battles? I have chosen to enter the medical field to have a positive impact on peoples’ lives. One act of kindness can provide comfort, safety, and even new hope. From personal experience I cannot convey the extraordinary impact that a single caring individual can have on someone facing life’s challenges.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy 12 years ago at age 14. Throughout my adolescent years and into adulthood I have had struggles with this medical condition, many injuries and tears have been sustained. The lack of control over your own body and mind can be overwhelming and terrifying. When an episode would land me in the hands of medical staff it meant so much to have their kindness and support. So much that it has impacted who I am, I am more compassionate, caring, and amiable. I want to be able to have that positive impact on people, to be there in their time of need, to provide that comfort.
My condition made attending school very difficult. I developed memory lapses and struggled with absent professors. It was a daily fight just to attend classes. Every …show more content…

I wanted to make a difference any way I could while in the program. I became one of the class representatives, initiating fundraising for the Curie Fund; which provides funding to local cancer patients’ and their families to cover expenses insurance companies may not. This includes hotel costs, transportation, or even wigs. Being a class representative also led me to participate in organizations such as the Wyoming Society of Radiologic Technologists and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. These organizations’ goals are to provide the best patient care. I am dedicated to their goals, so much that I am a board member of the Wyoming Society of Radiologic Technology and editor of the state
