Throughout History every civilization has come to an end. Humans can not run away from these failures in their societies. Great Societies will always come to an end. Great Societies fall because the Government doesn’t make the greatest decisions they could have, they get the things they need from other countries and don’t make it themselves, and they don’t treat the people the way they would like to be treated, all of these reason could make a society tumbling down. Each one messes up on their own, some of the most common ways are the government executing atrocious decisions, such as making a decision that puts the citizens in danger. Another reason they can fall is when they get their needs from other places, this is very common and everyone wonders why, but if that country stops giving you what you need, then your society will fall. However these are not the only reasons not treating the citizens right is another common reason. When the citizens are not treated well then they will go against whoever isn’t treating them well. These are all ways societies fall. You can see these failures in the book The Maze Runner, in present day Ukraine, and in ancient Rome.
Governments make a lot of bad decisions. After a while, these decisions pile up and bring the society plunging down. It is impossible to make all satisfying decisions, but you can try by talking about the problem or the item they are voting on to other people, and seeing what the citizens believe. “They were seated in chairs arranged in a semicircle around him.” ( Maze Runner Page 152) In the Maze Runner, they only have the outstanding people of the Glade at their job, which is called the Keepers make the decisions. ...oned again. Everybody makes bad decisions but when you are a government leader, you can not make that mistake. The bad decisions that the government officials have created and made their societies follow are one of the main causes for societies to fall. Also when you trust another country to give you what you need. When this country stops giving you this, then your people are at war and the death tally will begin to rise. No one can save a society from falling it is inevitable, but if we can get away from these habits then we won’t fall till a few more years in the future.

As you can see there are many reason why a society can fail or get destroyed and it can perpetuate destruction of a society also. When people don’t question authority and when they are ignorant or naive it can lead to the destruction of a society as seen through the two texts of Night and Fahrenheit 451 we can see that it is clearly evident that the destruction of a society is clearly happening if these to are evident.
On top of the failure of the government, we also see the failure to act correctly in humans as well. For example, in World War Z, there were illegal organ trafficking actions being taken in China. These actions were carried out by Fernando Oliveira, a heart surgeon in China. Although his actions were selfish and unjust, one could trace the problem back to the government for not warning the public about the beginning of a plague. Dr. Oliveira saw no true harm in the human trafficking business as it was such a profit. Democracy is rule by the people; the people elect governing officials based off of their personal values and beliefs. Different political parties rule the political scene and are serving to represent the people’s opinions in the best ways possible. Previously, I had a belief that my political view was essentially the only one possible and therefore it was the best. These views changed quickly once I learned the different political parties, their views, how they represent the people’s views, and how public opinion shapes politics. The government is formed around differentiating opinions on which policies should be in place and which social aspects need to be considered first. Not only is the government guided by opinion, but the people’s lives are guided by opinion as well. Each individual holds a different view, and each view can have an influence on society. War is commonly defined as an armed conflict between two entities, one that dates back to the beginning of mankind’s very existence. During this time many have attempted to explain the complex nature of war, its actors, and its origins. Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, demonstrates the fact of how society fails when human survival is the only option. In the novel, a group of British boys are stranded on an island, slowly becoming savages and fighting each other. However, as current life shows, people join together in light of major disasters. Even at their worst, society still manages to stand on their own and rise above. The earthquakes from Nepal in May and April help to demonstrate this point. Articles like “Nepal Quake: Death Toll Passes 3,200 as Nation Struggles with Devastation” exemplify that while events that are similar to how they are described in Lord of the Flies, society prevails for the greater good of the population, rather than failing and losing its grip in humanity.
In this, we find the first commentary, which in fact mirrors history. Here we see that a society, as occurred with the Roman Empire, can grow only up to a certain point, after which it begins declining and decaying, due in part to the gross levels of comfort that its populace become used to. This reliance upon comfort leads to an eventual loss of civic virtue among the people of the society. Once virtue is lost, the moral framework which holds a society together begins to fail, and after a time, crumbles, leading to a collapse of the society itself.
Corrupt leaders and the governments laws are a major factor as to why societies fall. The society depicted in Maze Runner was very top heavy in and outside of the maze, and mainly controlled by this association who went by the name of W.I.C.K.E.D. Nazi Germany fell almost because of the same thing, their leader Hitler hungered for power and basically made it so whatever he said was law.The evidence of a collapsing social system is very evident throughout the story Maze Runner. For example “‘Gardens-where we grow crops...Blood house-Where we raise and slaughter the animals...’The grievers will kill you all-one every night till it’s over!’”(Pg. 43 and 256) This shows that they need people to do their jobs and the society inside of the Glade was very dependent upon whether or not they have people to work in places like the blood house, and that without enough people to support everyone else by doing their job the society will collapse very quickly.

What is a great society? The key components to a great society are good economic values, strong government, and to make sure your citizens are happy. However, these societies have the opposite of that. These societies have bad laws and rules, citizens living in poverty, and they go through a ton of wars, but losing every single one. Leaving almost all of their soldiers dead. Minority of the societies getting treated unfairly, citizens rioting, dying, with no food, water, or even shelter for them. The reason why great societies fall is because of wars, poverty of citizens, and the bad rules and laws of these societies.

Civilization is compromised when rules become unnecessary and the children?s state of mind has changed for the worst. In Lord of the Flies, the conch shell and signal fire represent civilization, but as the children lose interest in having a leader, and following rules, these objects lose their meaning and savagery takes over. ?We may stay here till we die,? (pg.9) was a very powerful quote, because from the beginning of the novel, Golding is foreshadowing their future on the island. Another example of this is their painted faces and tribal dances, which happen when they?ve killed a pig. A force greater than they can control seems to take over their humanity, and because children haven?t been exposed to think for themselves, they don?t know between right and wrong. Therefore, society hasn?t conditioned them to be evil, but the evil resides within them naturally.
Imagine a world where you are stuck in an arena, several times the size of a football field, and you are with about fifty teenage boys for as long as you live. Well, lucky for you, that is the world which is The Maze Runner. Yes, The Maze Runner, by James Dashner, is a fictional society, but there are real life civilizations that fall too, such as Germany in the Nazi era, Sierra Leone, and Ancient Rome. Societies can crumble down and burn due to corrupt leaders or government, lack of crucial resources, and a diminished security.
Too many times in history has the government thrown aside the rights of the individual in the pursuit of their own agenda. This subsequently often led to their downfall as well. This happens far too often, even in our modern world. You would think that by now, despite all of the horrible things that came about as a result of these instances, we would have learned our lesson. But we still haven’t been able to get the message. Why? Because the power of greed is far more powerful than that of humanity. This has been visible since the dawn of man. Even though humans have a natural desire to care for one another, greed still conquers all, and that’s the sad truth of the matter. Unfortunately, governments take the greedy road far too often than they should. They get caught up in the moment and forget about what it’s all really about, which is fulfilling their side of the mutualistic relationship between them and the people. The one thing that we have in common is also the most overlooked.
All that can really be seen is what appears before ourselves. What we see on billboards, television, or radio show constantly the views of a new runner for politics whom proclaims what he or she wishes to accomplish. Listening to it, one can create a thought of why did they choose that topic for an argument? Today not all people vote so the ones who do are the people these “runners” focus on. Why would they fight to create increased pay to schools if all the voters are the elderly? Why not focus upon retirement benefits or healthcare? As citizens we have complaints on how the government manages our money and yet we do not do anything about it. Voting gives a chance. If certain groups grew in votes different ideas would be made for these “runners”. Say the young adults started to vote a lot more. We could have schooling benefits, less tuition fees, higher education levels, and possibly a large increase in jobs. One United Kingdom publisher explains, “If you vote, the campaigners urge, the politicians will have to listen to you and things will change.”(Kirkup, The Telegraph). Also youth have the longest time, and live what the country becomes. To conclude, voting doesn’t take long and doesn’t require almost any effort. All it requires just an open mind and yet people just do not realize this opportunity. Right now we could be living in the richest most opportunistic country if everyone could understand what can become of our views. Life could be looked forward not
