The odds of being a professional athlete are one in a million. People that are on the side of professional athletes getting paid millions, they think that they deserve it because of the amount of training and practice they put in every year and the high risk of injury anytime of the year. Others, think that they do not deserve the salaries they are receiving. However, in my view, there are reasons to why athletes do not really deserve the pay they get in their salaries. Professional athletes provide desired entertainment for the general public, but I believe they are paid an unreasonable amount. The fact that not just anyone can do it, and you need to have the best athletic ability in the world with an otherworldly talent of in order to participate, makes it worth the money. It is very rare to find athletes like that. For example, NBA has under 600 player in the league which means there is a slim chance that you are going to make it to the league. These athletes train year round to remain in the spot they are in right now. A regular day for an athlete could be 2 or 3 sessions of training per day. It could be intense workouts and can be tiring because they work on different things every session. The stress that these athletes have is unimaginable. They have to constantly watch their bodies, because if they get hurt, their careers might be over for them. As you can see, that is not a regular day for an average person. Athletes are paid to keep their bodies in top shape in order to perform enthusiastically and bring fans excitement. Also, these athletes face racism and criticism everyday in their lives. In an article, “Racial Discrimination in Professional Basketball” by Robert G. Mogull, “The approach to revealing discrimination based upon skin color is to relate the performance data of each racial group”(pg.15) and also as it states in, “Do Top Athletes Deserve Millions? Yes, They Deserve Every Dollar”, Benas says,“ I think of the societal trend of criticizing the enormous salaries of professional American sports figures. In some circles, the mere mention causes an asphyxiating and angry moral indignation in response to our national values.” (par. 2) .Which means racism is well and alive today, these players still face racism no matter how good their performance
