When Great Britain controlled the colonies in America they treated the colonists that lived there horribly. They would violate the colonists' rights and not give them any representation in their government. The colonists made the right decision when they choose to rebel against the British. Although, some people say the colonists deserved the treatment they received from the British, the colonists had a legitimate reason for rebelling against the British because the colonists had no representation in Parliament and the British harshly treated the colonists. The colonists faced many hardships while under the control of Great Britain. Some were brutally beaten, or even killed, if they did not listen to the strict laws Great Britain made the colonists follow. There were times when defenseless colonists were shot and killed just for exercising rights they should have as human beings. It is great to be protected by the best Navy is the world, but how good or bad the Navy is does not matter if they do not treat the citizens with the way they deserve to be treated. Many sources, primary and secondary, say that most the colonists could not afford to pay these taxes because they were so high.
