Two star crossed lovers fall in love who are the children of the families that are sworn enemies, the Montagues and Capulets hatred toward each other forces Romeo and Juliet to keep their true love a secret, which ends up being the cause for their suicides. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the vendetta between the Montagues and Capulets is to blame for the deaths of the lovers. This is because it was the feud that forced Romeo and Juliet to keep their love a secret from their families, and caused many deaths along with Romeo and Juliet. In the start of the play the prologue already identifies the fight between the two families and how Romeo and Juliet get caught up in an unlucky situation. The brawl with the families not only affected …show more content…
To go with Paris to Saint Peters Church, Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither.”(3.5.153.155) This is a problem because this causes Juliet to go run to Friar Laurence. Friar come up with a plan to get out of the marriage by giving Juliet a sleeping potion that will stop her heart for twenty-four hours and then she will wake up and be with Romeo. Unfortunately with Romeo and Juliet's bad fate the plan does not exactly work out. Instead Romeo does not get the message Friar sent to him that Juliet is in a fake death but instead he thinks she is actually dead, resulting in him committing suicide over Juliet's “dead” body. And after the time of Juliet sleeping potion is up, just minutes after Romeo killed himself Juliet finds him there and decides to take her life as well because she cannot be with Romeo. If the families were not in a feud Juliet could just have told her Mother and Father about her marriage with Romeo but she couldn't because he is a Montague, mocking her go to these insane measure to try and be with her true …show more content…
It is so obvious that Prince Escalus even say so himself near the end of the play, “Where be these enemies?- Capulet! Montague! See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, that heaven finds means to kill joys with love.”(5.3.308.310) Here Prince Escalus is telling the two families that because of there hate for each other a great evil is the result. Also the Prince mentions that because the the feud that has flared up everytime he has to lost family members because of it. Without the feud of the Families Romeo and Juliet would have never had to go to extreme length to hide their love from there families, which could have saved their
A person’s family may influence them substantially as they grow, from young children to love-struck teenagers. These family members might do so unintentually, but bad traits will rub off just as often as good ones, so will opinions and ideas. Lord Capulet is a character in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet who tries to make the best out of bad situations, but rarely succeeds and is coloured as quite a hypocrite. He attempts to not be blinded by hate but evidently this leads to many mistakes, usually ones he himself doesn’t end up making, but ones he leads others into. Lord Capulet’s bad parenting leads to the death of his daughter and her lover.
To support my thesis that the conflict between the heads of the Montague and Capulet families are responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death, I quote from Romeo and Juliet (V, iii, 291-293) Prince: "... Capulet! Montague! See, what a scourge is laid upon your hate, that heaven finds means to kill your joys with love! What the Prince is saying is that, see what dreadful punishment has been laid upon your hatred. Heaven finds a reason to kill your joys with their love!"
When Juliet goes to the friar and threatens to kill herself if he doesn’t help her get out of marrying Paris he agrees to help her. He gives her a potion to temporarily stop her breathing so she appears dead. The friar says, “Take thou this /vial, being then in bed,/And this distilling liquor drink thou off;/When presently through/all thy veins shall run/A cold and drowsy humor; for no pulse/Shall keep his native progress, but surcease.” (Act IV.i 95-99) “In the meantime, against thou shalt awake,/Shall Romeo by my letters know our drift,” (Act IV.i 115-116) He is saying that Juliet doesn’t have to worry about Romeo freaking out about her death because he will tell Romeo about her fake death and they will be there to dig her up once she wakes up from her sleeping potion. Juliet is 100% on board with this plan because she really does not want to marry Paris. She is even willing to make her family think she is dead to be with
There are two families that hate each other Romeo's family the Montague's and Juliet's family the Capulet's. The families have hated each other for many generations. Romeo and Juliet met at a party even though Lord Capulet has found Juliet a husband but she doesn't like him and falls in love with Romeo who was previously in love with Rosaline. Romeo and Juliet get married in secret hoping in the long run that this deed will end the family feud but Juliet's family don't know about the wedding. Mercutio Romeo's best friend and Tybalt Juliet's cousin get into a fight and Mercutio dies but Romeo turns up and kills Tybalt. Romeo is banished to Mantua for killing Tybalt so Juliet isn't happy because she has lost two of the people she cares about most.
The play Romeo and Juliet was written by William Shakespeare. Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet are two "star-crossed lovers". Their families are sworn enemies. When Romeo, Benvolio and others go to a Capulet party in the beginning is fate. Another event is when Capulet moves the wedding of Juliet and Count Paris up one day. A final event is when Romeo finds Juliet in the tomb. If Romeo had come a few minutes later he would've found Juliet awake. These events affect the tragic ending of the play.
The feud meant that they had to keep their relationship under wraps and tip-toe around their families. The ancient grudge between the two families meant that if one member of either family found out about Romeo and Juliet then they would be killed, ‘If they do see thee, they will murder thee.’ The family feud between the Montague and Capulet families could also be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because they both grew up with people dieing within the families because of the grudge. For instance Mercutio and Tybalt, Mercutio was a very loyal friend of Romeo’s and Tybalt was Juliet’s cousin. The deaths of these characters meant that Romeo and Juliet were both distressed and unhappy, and thus could have given more reason to their own deaths, ‘ A’ Thursday let it be, a’ Thursday, tell her,
Although there are many factors to the tragedy of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, some are greater than others. The major contributor to the downfall of these lovers was Capulet, Juliet's own father. He brought upon the death of Juliet by forcing her to marry Paris, separating her from her Romeo, and rejecting her.
In William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, two young lovers lost their lives when hate and love collided. From the Montagues came Romeo and from the Capulets came Juliet. The two families were feuding and Romeo and Juliet could not stand being without each other. They both killed themselves because they thought life was not worth living without the other. Though there are many who can be blamed for this tragic ending, there are three that are the most responsible.
In Williams Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, he depicts the story of star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. In the tragic ending of the play, both Juliet and Romeo take their lives. Romeo and Juliet are not the only ones responsible for their own death. There are many characters that contribute to the situation. Of these characters, the person who bears the most responsible is Lady Capulet because of her opinion on when and who Juliet should marry. She also helped the feud between the capulets and montagues, therefore causing romeo and juliet's love to be forbidden. For these reasons lady capulet is to blame for Romeo and juliet's death.
Who knew that a feud between two families could cause the death of their children. The family of the Montague's and Capulet's have a strong hatred towards each other. One child, from the Montague's, named Romeo, falls in love with a Capulet, Juliet. There was a terrible tragedy that happened between them. Both end up dead after Juliet fakes her death in a tomb. Romeo thinks she's dead and drinks poison to kill himself. Juliet wakes up to see him dead and she then kills herself with his dagger. But who's to blame for the death of Juliet and Romeo? There's Capulet, Juliet's father, who pushed her to marry someone she didn't want to. There's also her mother, Lady Capulet, who ignores Juliet and doesn't listen to her. Then there is Friar Lawrence
Someone once said, “Children should not have to sacrifice so that you can have the life you want. You make sacrifices so your children can have the life that they deserve.”(unknown) The purpose of writing this essay is to show why I would choose Lord Capulet to punish. Some people may not control their child’s life, but in Romeo and Juliet ,which is written by William Shakespeare, Lord Capulet is overbearing and tries to control Juliet’s life.
When Romeo and Juliet realize they can’t be together, and Juliet is expected to marry Paris, she needs an escape plan. Juliet pays a visit to the Friar, who creates a plan for Juliet to fake her death with a sleeping potion. When Juliet asks the Friar to help her break free from her wedding with Paris, he replies that: If, rather than to marry County Paris, Thou has the strength of will to slay thyself; Then it is likely thou wilt undertake A thing like death to elude away this shame, That cop'st with death himself to scrape from it; And, if thou darest, I'll give thee remedy. IV i 71-76. Therefore, for the second time, the Friar acts unwisely and agrees to give Juliet this deadly potion.
Juliet rejects marrying Paris, recklessly saying in act 3 scene 5, "I will not marry yet; and when I do, I swear...it shall be Romeo, whom you know I hate, rather than Paris." By stating this, he father becomes enraged and threatens to disown Juliet if she does not go through with the marriage. This thus causes Juliet to lie to the nurse that she will be meeting Friar Lawrence to make a confession. As Juliet hurries to the friar, she impulsively vows that she will never again trust the Nurse's counsel. Then she also goes on to make the hastily decision that if the friar is unable to help her, then Juliet herself, will take her own life. This leads Friar Lawrence to devise a rather risky plan in act 4, scene 1. He wants Juliet to take a potion that would make her look lifeless. He will then send a letter to Romeo to come get Juliet when she wakes up two days later in the family tomb and will then escape to Mantua together. Even though Juliet shows her concerns about this plan when she mutters to herself in act 4, scene 3 ," what if it be a poison [or what if] I wake before the time that Romeo come to redeem me," she still plans to go through with this scheme as she will do anything to not marry Paris and stay with Romeo. All of this, was caused from the argument she had with her
In the tragedy Romeo and Juliet, I believe that the Capulets are most responsible for their death of Romeo and Juliet. First, the Montagues and Capulets have a historical family feud. The nurse told Juliet, “His name is Romeo, and a Montague, the only son of your great enemy.” (1.5.152-3)The ancient grudge between the families made it very difficult for Romeo and Juliet to be together. The nurse is calling the two lovers enemies. An enemy is someone you hate and obviously they are nothing close to that. If there was no family fight, Romeo and Juliet could wed and live happily together. However since this isn’t the case, Romeo and Juliet are put in a tragic situation which causes them both to take their own lives. Second, Juliet’s parents forced
Throughout the play of Romeo and Juliet, there are multiple major themes that create the conflict. One of those themes is hatred. The two families, Montagues, and Capulets have had their feud for a long time and there is no stopping it. This feud has led the families to not pay attention to their children to their full potential. In William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the feuds between the Montagues and Capulets have made the adults focus more on their status proving adults are self-involved.
