Who knew that a feud between two families could cause the death of their children. The family of the Montague's and Capulet's have a strong hatred towards each other. One child, from the Montague's, named Romeo, falls in love with a Capulet, Juliet. There was a terrible tragedy that happened between them. Both end up dead after Juliet fakes her death in a tomb. Romeo thinks she's dead and drinks poison to kill himself. Juliet wakes up to see him dead and she then kills herself with his dagger. But who's to blame for the death of Juliet and Romeo? As you know, Capulet is the father of Juliet. Capulet has a feud with the Montague's and wants nothing to do with them. Romeo is a Montague which automatically causes Capulet to not like him. The problem is that Juliet falls in love with him and wants to marry him. So they have a secret marriage. That secret marriage shouldn't be needed if Capulet didn't have the feud with the Montague's. If the feud was not still alive, then the two of them could be married and not have to keep it a secret. (A) Also Capulet forced Juliet to marry Paris and didn't have a care about what she wanted to do. She really didn't want to marry Paris and she tried to tell her father that, but he said if she doesn't marry Paris, She will be disowned and left on the streets. So Juliet had no choice but to take the potion so she could get out of marrying Paris and possibly get away from her father. Lady Capulet was also pushing Juliet to marry Paris and how she was at that age where girls were getting married. Juliet didn't want to and so she told her mother that and her mother didn't like it, Her mother told her that she would have to talk to her father about not getting married to Paris. In Romeo and Juliet, there are many guilty parties that contribute to the deaths and demise of Romeo, Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, Count Paris and the many other victims of the bitterness and grudge between the Capulets and the Montagues. However, the three most culpable parties are the set of opposing parents; the Montagues and Capulets, the prince; Escalus of Verona and ultimately the lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The blame lies mostly on these three parties because their decisions greatly influenced the outcome of this Shakespearean tragedy. In this essay, I will prove and condemn the prince, parents and lovers for the losses of life and the confusion in Romeo and Juliet.
In Document B, “Think of marriage now”, Juliet tells her mother “ … no more deep will I endart mine eye / Than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” Juliet is telling Lady Capulet that she will only marry the person that her parents approve of. Juliet acts as if she will do what her parents say,which is why they do not take her seriously when Juliet says she does not want to marry Paris and force her to marry him, which drives Juliet to kill herself. Furthermore, Juliet also does not give her parents a reason to why she suddenly changed her mind about marrying paris. Juliet told her parent “ Delay this marriage for a month, a week…” When Juliet says to delay the marriage she does not tell her parents why she wanted to wait, because she did not give a valid reason her parents though she was just being difficult and thought Juliet would get over it and marry Paris. This resulted in Juliet faking her own death, which lead to Romeo and Juliet to take their own lives. Juliet is to blame because she acted as if she had no voice in the decisions that were made for her , causes her parent to overlook her opinion, Juliet also does not communicate why she does not want to marry Paris, which would have resulted in her parents to at least hear her
Juliet wants to marry Romeo. This is a problem and it cause Juliet to want to marry Romeo more. In document B Lady Capulet is worried about Juliet getting married because she got married younger than Juliet is right now. Juliet is not ready to get married, but Lady Capulet is pushing it on her(“DBQ: Romeo and Juliet: Who’s to Blame”. Doc. B). When she finds Romeo she loves him and want to get married. She may have fought Romeo because of how hard Lady Capulet is pushing her to get married. In document D Lady Capulet is also to blame. In this document Juliet saying that she does not love Paris, but Lady Capulet and Capulet think otherwise. They are pushing her to married to Paris. This could have affected the way that the story ends with them(“DBQ: Romeo and Juliet: Who’s to Blame”. Doc.
Responsibility for Romeo and Juliet's Deaths There is much controversy to who is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, a number of things and people could be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. But who is responsible for their deaths? Even before the play begins the grudge between the Capulet and Montague families has begun. Because of this, it becomes imminent that one thing or event will start off a sequence of incidents that will end in tragedy. The on-going feud between the Montague and Capulet families could be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, because if their was no feud between these families then Romeo and Juliet would have been able to have a safe normal relationship in which their family would have agreed to.
Although Capulet wanted the best for Juliet, he didn't give a thought on how she felt and had forced her to marry Paris which had caused problems that led to her tragic end. She didn't want to marry someone who she did not love and wanted to escape this marriage. Her method of escape was death. Capulet's controlling actions appeared as early as Act I Scene 2, when he was arranging Juliet's marriage to Paris without her consent. Paris wondered if Juliet would like him and Capulet responded with, "Of my child's love: I think she will be ruled. In all respects by me; nay, more, I doubt it not." (IV, 3, ln. 13-14). stating that he doesn't just think Juliet will like him but that he knows she will like him. When Juliet refuses to marry Paris, he shouted, "To go with Paris to Saint Peter's Church, Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither." (V, 3, ln. 154-155). making her agree to go to the church. Although she did agree to go, her thought of, "I'll to the friar, to know his remedy; If all else fail, myself have power to die." (V, 3, ln. 241-242). showed that she did not plan on marrying Paris and that she would die first. Juliet's arrangement to Paris had brought her death because it had resulted in the potion plan which had caused Romeo and Juliet to die. If Capulet had never forced Juliet to marry Paris, she would have been living happily with Romeo.
The Death of Romeo and Juliet and Who is to Blame Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, in which a young boy and girl fall in love and commit suicide. They come from 2 different families which have a deadly feud against one another. Romeo goes to a masked ball at the Capulet's household where he falls in love with Juliet. He then proposes to her after the party in secret at Juliet's balcony. Romeo then arranges a secret weeding with Friar Lawrence and Juliet tells the Nurse.
Juliet’s family, the Capulet’s wanted Juliet to marry a charming man named Paris. They thought that he was a very nice man but they wanted him to marry her when she was finally old enough to get married because she was only 13. After a while though her parents were really wanting her to marry Paris she wouldn’t marry him though and her dad had told her if she did not marry him he would disown her. “But, an you will not wed, I’ll pardon you. Graze where you will, you shall not house with me. Look to’t, think on’t; I do not use to jest. Thursday is near; lay hand on heart, advise: An you be mine. I’ll give you to my friend; An you be not, hand, beg, starve, die in the streets” (3.4 215-220). Second of all her parents and Romeo’s parents and family did not like each other at all, there was no way her parents would approve of her being married to Romeo. In the end her parents are a big part of her death because if they wouldn’t have wanted her and Paris marrying each other she could have just secretly been married to Romeo without them knowing, or pressuring her to marry another person.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story with many colorful characters. People often mistake this tragedy to be a romantic fairy tale, which is not the case at all. Six people end up dead. One of the biggest arguments regarding Romeo and Juliet is who is the miscreant that caused the calamity in the first place. There are many suspects, but in regards to the deaths of Romeo, Juliet, and Paris there is one man who stands out. Lord Capulet is guilty of the crime. If it weren’t for his selfish, immature, and abusive attitude, Juliet would have never had to fake her death.
The story people adore; Romeo falls for Juliet and they get married. They are forced into hiding which leads to Juliet pretending to be dead. Most of the play’s characters closely related to Romeo and Juliet carry some responsibility, but there are three characters or groups who had the greatest influence on the story’s outcome. Friar Laurence could be blamed for marrying them and keeping it secret. Juliet’s nurse encouraged Romeo’s pursuit of Juliet, even helping Juliet sneak out to marry. Last and most deserving of blame, however, are the parents, Lord and Lady Capulet and Lord and Lady Montague. If not for the family feud and hatred, Romeo and Juliet would’ve lived, not tasting the bittersweetness of death.
Love can kill but being forced to love can hurt even more. In my ninth grade english class we read the book Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, it was a tough book in the beginning with the word choices used by the creative writer William Shakespeare. We were told to right an essay and gather evidence of who is the real blame for Romeo and Juliet's death. I believe the real killer in this book is Lord Capulet the father of Juliet.
Throughout the scene, we are given the impression that Capulet is kind-hearted, because he wants his daughter to marry for love and wants Paris to ‘woo her’ and work hard to ‘get her heart’, although we are still aware of his power to force Juliet into a marriage if necessary.... ... middle of paper ... ... Lord Capulet takes it for granted that his daughter will do what he tells her, saying ‘I will make a desperate tender / Of my child’s love’, taking responsibility away from Juliet and perhaps suggesting that she can’t decide for herself. Juliet’s parents appear understanding of her grief at first, but then plan the wedding in only 3 days, not giving her time to grieve.
In the story “ The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet “ the main characters get themselves in a pickle by falling in love knowing that their families are sworn enemies. Soon Romeo kills Juliet's cousin by accident, Juliet drinks a potion, some words get twisted and at the end both of the lovebirds end up dead. At the end of the story both families are devastated that both of their children pass away, but there are also many unanswered questions. The most asked question in the story is “ Who's to blame? ” and overall I believe everyone has a little part in influencing their death, but I believe that one person is to blame for most of this and I believe that it is the mother and father of Juliet.
Capulet’s controlling and aggressive parenting forces Juliet to marry someone she does not love. Furthermore, this causes Juliet to start considering suicide as a way out. Capulet’s actions to forcefully marry Juliet to Paris brings her to death because it results in the Friar’s potion plan which would cause the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If Capulet did not force Juliet to marry, she would be dead. The Nurse shares some responsibility for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths due to the fact that she did not counsel Juliet when she learned about Juliet’s relationship with Romeo.
