What are body worn camera? A body worn camera is a portable device used by law enforcement for the purpose of monitoring interactions between officers and the public. The recordings will be used as evidence for investigation purposes, for officer training, building police/citizens relationships, and for officer reform and accountability (Brucato, 2015). There has been huge controversy on the use of body cameras by law enforcement officers. Body cameras are tiny mobile devices that can be attached to the officers’ uniform. These devices are implemented for the primary use of recording the officer’s daily work encounters. If an officer encounters a situation where they are accused of any harm or danger upon a suspect, the cameras can be pulled, and the video can be viewed as to gain access to the audio and visual interactions that took …show more content…

The use of body cameras will decrease the rates of violence, accountability for inappropriate misconduct, as well as improve the way the public view law enforcement officials. There are many benefits that come with the use of body cameras by officers. While the view on the use of body cameras by officers may be deemed as an invasion of privacy rights, the use of body cameras is an implementation to the usage for recoding audio and physical interactions between the officers and the public, assist with building trust within communities and officers, promote a safer environment for both officers and citizens, and provide evidence needed to solve a case when the witness/individual is not present (Bakardjiev, 2015). Increasing the use of body cameras by law enforcement officials will decline the rates in crimes, and citizens behavior will become positive as they view that law enforcement officers are there
